What Will Happen If UF Wins The SEC And Is Left Out Of The BCS?

"...we'd burn down Atlanta General Sherman style." (HT: Hanson) As a Yankee Carpetbagger and Florida graduate, I approve this message.

Might I suggest...

…Indianapolis as an alternative to Atlanta seeing as the NCAA offices are in Indy?

I live in the Atl

And a good controlled burn would be a good thing for this city!

When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.

Why Are You Worried?

If we beat Alabama in the National SEC Championship Game, then we’d be a solid #1 in both the Harris and USA Today Polls (2/3 of the BCS). If Oklahoma wins the Big XII Championship Game, then they’d be a solid #2 in both human polls and #1 in the Computers. That means that Texas, then #3 in both human polls at best, would have to make up the difference in the computers. In other words, we’d have to drop in the computers after beating #1, undefeated Alabama… This is borderline paranoid!

Really?

That article is pure speculation from a guy that openly stated that his rooting interest is chaos for the BCS. There’s the illusion of research and math, but there’s no real substance to his analysis. Let’s take a closer look at this nightmare scenario and you’ll see that it’s nothing to be afraid of.

Texas’ position in the BCS will not strengthen, but rather weaken, after Saturday’s games. Sure, they could gain from rising above Alabama in the two computers that currently have the Tide ahead of them, but they could just as easily lose from having Oklahoma surge above them in the two that have the Sooners below them at the moment. My best guess is that they’ll likely end up with the same computer score that they now have. Meanwhile, Florida would go from .820 to .866 by moving up a single slot in each of model. That may not seem like enough, but take this next point into account.

Texas will lose significant ground in the human polls (twice as important as the computers). Not only will their Championship wins propel the Gators and Sooners to the top of both rankings (helping Oklahoma’s Harris score and Florida’s in the USA Today), but the Longhorns will likely lose the temporary support they got for their bid to make it to the Big XII Championship Game to begin with and might still have to contend for the #3 slot, this time with the Crimson Tide. In other words, not only will UF’s scores for both polls shoot up, but UT’s would drop as well. If Oklahoma and Florida end up basically deadlocked at the top of both polls, the gains from where the Gators are now would finish closing the gap from the computers, even if Texas retains all of the support it has now, which won’t happen.

A win in Atlanta and the Gators are in the National Championship Game. I’m certain of this. If you’d like to put some money on this, I’d be happy to oblige. That’s how sure of it I am.

the SEC championship...

…is the National Championship game in my opinion.

Well, since I'm already planning to secede around the end of January [you can speculate]...

Anyone for an all out assault on anyone associated with the BCS? I’m joking… Maybe.

HAHAHA!!!

Hillarious! The same guy that pumps out a doom-and-gloom based on pure speculation is forced to write a half-hearted retraction due to the intervention of logic and the least bit of research.

The fact that it’s a discussion concerns me. I’m glad someone is confident in the system “working” because I’m sure as hell not.

What's Funny Is...

Even if/when the BCS works, opponents won’t acknowledge it. When it looks like things might go badly, however, people instantly claim that a playoff is the only cure for all of college football’s championship ills. Well, who gets left out this year?

If you were to simply take the top 8 teams, then you’d leave out undefeated Boise State and Ball State, plus BCS conference champions Cincinnati and Boston College or Virginia Tech. If you mandate that any of those be included (any undefeated team or all major conference champions) then teams like Texas Tech, Texas and Alabama/Florida get left out. And what happens when some team follows the New York Giants blueprint and wins the championship by sneaking into the playoffs and beating only teams that had already previously defeated them in the regular season; will people view them as undisputed champions then? BCS supporters are always on the defense, but playoff proponents never have to defend their own plans despite myriad and obvious flaws.

We've already been through this thread

If we win, we are in. Period. no discussion, ifs, ands or buts about it.
