Gators Softball Heads To College World Series

The No. 1 Gators swept California this weekend, earning Florida’s first trip to the Women’s College World Series. With a record of 67-3, only a two-and-out record in the World Series would prevent the Gators from setting the single season wins record. More importantly, the Gators may have the easiest half of the bracket, propelling UF to the Championship Series.

Florida begins play Thursday against Cinderella Story Louisiana-Lafayette (51-13). On the other side are No. 5 Texas A&M (54-7) and another surprise, Virginia Tech (49-17). The Hokies are led by Angela Tincher who might be the only pitcher in America more impressive than UF’s Stacey Nelson. In March, Tincher no-hit the US National Team, as VT won 1-0. Florida’s offense has been humming, but Tincher is dominant enough to drive her team through to the finals.

The Gators have been absolutely amazing this season as they have been powered by their youth. Five more wins is all it takes to make an amazing season a championship one.
