Jim Bates Sr. to Take Reigns of Buccaneers' Defense
Our fearless leader, mlm, is stuck in DC with car trouble, but the show must go on.
As we all know, Jon Gruden is out in Tampa. Raheem Morris has now named the successor to Monte Kiffin, the architect of the Tampa Two. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Thursday that Jim Bates will assume the role of defensive coordinator for the team. The 62 year old Tennessee Vol grad has been coaching for 37 years, most recently as Assistant Head Coach of the Denver Broncos.
Obviously Jim's greatest contribution was his son; All-SEC linebacker James Bates has given us a National Championship, the James Bates Show, and my favorite Steve Spurrier impression:
I'm not sure if this hiring will get the Buccaneers more than nine wins next season, but it sure as hell will remind me to watch this video every time I hear them mention Bates.

For those children who claimed they’ve been a fan of their favorite team all their life, or even since they were about four or five years old: bullshit. There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. For me, Nomar Garciaparra was that reason. - Nick Coviello: I Try To See Rocco, But All I Think Is Nomar; 1/9/09
OT, but we smashed Vandy.
Or at least it seems that way from the box score. Got stuck doing homework and the game wasn’t on Yahoo. Nice bounceback game by Parsons after bricking the likely game sealing FT last time out.
