Who Replaces Urban Meyer?

Apparently not Charlie Strong. The Orlando Sentinel's Mike Bianchi cites sources that it's not Strong, according to Pat Forde (click the link, it'll make sense). Dan Mullen is already on record as giving the standard coach speak non-denial. So who's it gonna be?

What about Tommy Tuberville?

What would y’all think of that? Just curious.

"We're at AUBURN. I think that says it all. We're going after the best in the country -- no matter when, what, where, how. That's how we're going to do it. We're going to work really hard to try to get that done every year -- including this one." -- Auburn University Head Football Coach Gene Chizik

So help me

if it’s Stoops, I’ll be epically pissed.

its awesome that Tebow is leading this poll

On a more serious note, names that sound good to me at first blush: Mullen, Whittingham, Sumlin, Mendenhall, Patterson. . .

I'm pretty disappointed Tebow is leading

He and Shanahan are the “snowball’s chance in hell” candidates. And Mattison was co-d coordinator for the 2006 Gators. He’s no bum.

Also, Mendenhall is a cool pick, but I cannot see a Mormon coach leaving BYU willingly.

What the hell just happened here?

I am still in shock. We are in serious %$@* here. Our head coach gone, starting QB and star LB going to NFL, all the players that were deciding on whether to stay or go may now choose to go (Haden, Dunlap, Pouncy brothers, Aaron Hernandez, maybe Major Wright and/or Ahmad Black). And now some of our star recruits will be second guessing their decision.

This just sucks

Stay Strong Brother

We were playing football for 98 years before Urban Meyer showed up. We will win again.

One thing all of these candidates have in common...

…is that they all had ties to the university at one point or another (Yes, even Shanahan, who was offensive coordinator during the early 80’s). One compelling candidate, and one particularly compelling storyline, is Steve Spurrier leaving South Carolina and coming back for a second stint at his alma mater, although I wouldn’t bite. Things just wouldn’t be the same as they once were. You can pretty much tank Ron Zook and Galen Hall for nearly opposite reasons.

Again, I am on record as to giving my vote to going outside the university and making a serious run at Chris Peterson. First off, though, we must note that Meyer himself was hired from a BCS buster at Utah. He has an established resume, he didn’t already leave for a better job like Brian Kelly and didn’t sign an extension like Gary Patterson. His offense has shown signs of working, and working very well, at the college level. He’s actually a few months younger than Meyer is, and Meyer was still considered fairly young by coaching standards. And besides, aren’t the Broncos already orange and blue?

Even if Foley can only make a serious run at Peterson but Peterson doesn’t bites, I will still be happy.

Rec'd

Petersen was the first guy who popped into my head.

Top 5..

1. Whittingham Utah
2. Patterson TCU
3. Mullen MSU
4. Stoops OU
5. Harbaugh Stanford

I think anyone of those guys would be a slam-dunk for Florida.

It also might be a good idea to start grooming Tebow to be a coach, in case whoever comes in Zooks it up for 4 or 5 seasons. |Joke|
