On their way to Florida's first National Championship, Danny Wuerffel turned into a cold blooded assassin against Alabama. Wuerffel was 20-35 for 401 yards and six touchdowns. Florida's 45-30 victory over the Tide was UF's fourth consecutive SEC Championship. The game increased in importance as earlier in the day Texas upset Nebraska to win the Big 12 Championship, opening the door for UF to play FSU in the Sugar Bowl for a chance at the National Championship.
