Should the doctor be in Gainesville?

I came up with the stupidest idea the other day, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.  I don't think that any of us like the notion of Steve Addazio being the interim head coach.  What if, god forbid, Meyer is not ready to come back in August?  The thought keeps me awake at night after seeing Addazio struggle when moved from OL coach to OC this past season.  He did not handle the additional responsibility well, even with a 6'4" 245 lb crutch to lean on.

Foley's problem is obvious though. Adazzio was really his only choice. He couldn't bring in someone from outside, the program because what coach in their right mind is going to take a temporary head coaching position without real control of the program??!  Since Strong departed - Adazzio was left as the only player still holding cards - and therefore got the job by default.

I started thinking about who would be better for the program...someone who could actually afford to take the temporary position.  Someone at a stage in their life where they don't need the money or long term commitment.   Someone we could trust and could actually HELP recruiting instead of hamper it.  I was only able to come up with one name.

Lou Holtz.

Now before you lay into me  - hear me out.  Holtz and Urban are already good friends. Lou said so on the air several times when the story broke and Meyer has brought him in to give speeches to the Gators before. The guy can still motivate young men. We wouldn't have to worry about him not wanting to relinquish the position when Meyer is ready to return full time. As a friend and former successful coach, he could also counsel Meyer and help him learn to relax a little bit. He can help teach Meyer how to survive as a coach long term.  Plus - he's even held Meyer's "dream job!" (kidding on that one).

Regarding recruiting, most of these high school stars are ESPN junkies.  They watch Holtz all the time with his silly ask the doctor segment. He is a figurehead, an icon.  I would think that Lou Holtz sitting in a livingroom with a high school senior and his parents telling them all what a first class program Florida is, would do nothing to hurt our recruiting efforts.

So what do you think?  I think Interim Gator Coach Lou Holtz sounds a lot better than Steve Addazio.

Please be kind and use good grammar.
