Lets talk Dynasty teams

Everyone knows the famous dynasty teams.  The 70s Steelers, the Boston Celtics, and the Cleveland Browns are a few.  All of these teams have their place in history as some of the most dominant teams in their time.  All of them won multiple titles.  Within a decade they all established themselves as winning teams.

The Florida Gators football team has done this.  But are the Gators one of them?  They have won 2 of the last 3 national championchips.  They have dominated their conference in those two years.  I don't think they would be a dynasty team yet. But with the possibility of a third title in 4 years,  they may become one.  The only thing in their way is themselves.  Not many teams have the combination of talent and big game experience that the Gators do.

So what do you think? Could the Gators be considered a dynasty by the end of next year?

One-peat.

Whenever I hear/read “dynasty” in reference to college football, I can’t help but think of USC’s legendary One-peat. I can’t believe that “split” national chamionship gets the love it does…

"A player who conjugates a verb in the first person singular cannot be part of the squad, he has to conjugate the verb in the first person plural. We. We want to conquer. We are going to conquer. Using the word 'I' when you're in a group makes things complicated." ~ Wanderley Luxemburgo, 1999

Totally

agree. When you look at other similar teams like Miami in the 80’s and early 90’s, with 4 titles in that time, and FSU in the mid-late 90’s won 2. All played in a weak conference that they easily dominated. So I agree that USC gets way too much cred.

Let's be honest.

The 2006 team was not Urban Meyer’s team. It was Ron Zook’s. It’s like Jon Gruden winning with Tony Dungy’s guys. I just don’t associate 2008’s team with 2006’s. Even then, the 2006 season was very unimpressive. This 2008 Gators team dominated.

Just wants to beat the Gators

Maybe, but consider this

Had Ron Zook coached the ’06 team, how do you think they would have finished? I say 8-4 at best, but more likely 7-5 or even 6-6. If you recall, we won several close ones that season. The ’06 title was clearly won on defense, which is what the ’09 team will have to do to earn another title. The good news is the ’09 offense will be tons better than that flailing ’06 offensive unit.

I

sort of follow the the line of thinking that it is more challenging to coach “someone else’s” players than your own. Especially since the talent level is probably even if not a little better now verses when Urban first arrived, so take the “talent” thing out of it.

Chris Leak fit into Meyer’s spread offense like Andre Smith into a tutu.
