The segment, “Gator Nation: NFL Bound”, will showcase how the rookies from Florida are progressing in the NFL. The series will follow all the former Gator players from last season, and we will be giving you updates on how they are doing in the NFL. As this is the first installment of the series, you will be introduced to all our Gator players in the NFL, and the situations they are in.
Percy Harvin Signs: Just as the title says, Percy Harvin has signed his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings. After missing a couple of days, Harvin has agreed to a 5 year contract, with the money not being announced yet. Going into the upcoming season, Harvin will be used a lot on special teams, and also as a threat in the Wildcat offense.
Ingram Shines: The former Tight End for UF who suffered a season ending injury last year is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. In camp, Ingram (pictured) has been displaying his athleticism and talent, giving the Eagles a reliable option in the passing game. He will enter the season as the backup to Brent Celek, but he certainly will get his chances, especially in the redzone.
Murphy Impresses: Stuck on one of the worst franchises in the NFL, Louis Murphy has given the Oakland fans some hope. After signing a 4 year deal, worth $2.2 million, Murphy has shown he is the best receiver on their roster, including first round pick Heyward-Bey. Murphy may be a surprise for the Raiders, and could contend for Rookie of the Year honors.
Fighting For A Spot: Besides the 3 Gators drafted, two other members of the 2008 team are still fighting for a roster spot. Tackle Jason Watkins is working out with the Houston Texans, and looking to find a spot on their line. Also trying to secure an NFL roster spot is linemen Phil Trautwein, who is currently with the St. Louis Rams. We wish the best of luck to both these guys as they fight hard to play in the NFL
That wraps up the 1st of many articles on the rookie Gators in the NFL. We hope that all of them find success in the NFL, and continue their collegiate success in the next level.
