The last act of a desperate man: Urban Meyer brings back Chris Rainey
Urban Meyer broke his silence this week on his required SEC Teleconference to announce that Chris Rainey will be in pads against Georgia.
"Chris Rainey is eligible to participate in the Georgia game, but I’m not saying he will," Meyer said. "That hasn’t been determined."
I'd bet my non-existent mortgage that Rainey is playing. Look at the backs and receivers who Florida might be missing, and consider if UF could use someone fresh off a five game suspension. From the Palm Beach Post;
– WR Andre Debose sprained his right ankle against Mississippi State and the diagnosis is discouraging.
"He will not practice this week," Meyer said. "We’re doing everything we can to get him back next week. It was a rather severe ankle sprain, but he’s recovering well."
– RBs Jeff Demps (sprained left foot), Emmanuel Moody (quad strain or bruised thigh) and Mike Gillislee (bruised right foot) had minimal participation in Tuesday’s practice.
That's your best return man and all three of your running backs who have some sort of injury. Granted, the Gators could use Mack Brown, but he is not in the Urban Meyer Trust Tree. Rainey shouldn't be in the Trust Tree either, but Meyer seems to think it is better to drop your ethics than play a freshman.

Well he was off the team for 5 weeks
and wont play for 6 weeks. I don’t think we can go as far as saying hes dropping his ethics…haven’t we already gone over this ad nauseam? Que all the trolls coming in……
I'd love to impugn Urbz's morals on this, but without knowing everything that...
went on besides the text (which sounds damning by itself), I can’t say for sure that Rainey should have been suspended for the season.
Are you ever going to get over this Rainey thing?
Honestly, I cringe every time I come on this blog and see some holier-than-thou spouting off about how Rainey should be out for the rest of the year.
You’re entitled to your opinion that he’s the worst human scum ever, and I’m entitled to mine that he’s a kid that made a mistake, but it seems to me like you’re clinging to your viewpoint despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary that says Rainey wasn’t a credible threat.

I thought seven games (half season, assuming a max of 14 games) was good. We also noted that Rainey practicing with the team was a good thing. My problem is with him being on the sidelines. The idea that someone made a “mistake” or an “error in judgment” or is a “threat” is in the eye of the beholder. I know Rainey has a history of interesting things coming out of his mouth, but this was a bit more serious than saying, “Damn I’m glad I’m Chris Rainey.”
Also, as our other story today noted, I’d rather not write about Addazio or Rainey. So this isn’t my fault, it’s Urban’s for announcing it.

Fair enough
I didn’t mean to make it seem like I was attacking you personally. I just happen to vehemently disagree on the whole Rainey thing (as I’m sure you noticed).
I agree with things on the Rainey and Addazio front. You gotta take what you’re given I suppose.
You know what surprises me though- I was reading an article from the Post, and they were discussing Florida’s problems on offense- Addazio’s name wasn’t mentioned once in the article. It blew my mind.

Stop the Rainey Threads!
No one knows all the details, thus, ANY conclusion is based on nothing more than speculation.
I thought this already happened
Didn’t he bring Rainey back last week?
Missing Rings: The 1997 Seminoles
He said he would not play against MSU, so not really
If Rainey were Trent Richardson or AJ Green, I would say that this is a bigger story. But he’s not. He is a slot back in an offense centered around the dive play and option. I don’t think Rainey is being treated any differently than any other player would under Meyer. He screwed up – agreed it was a huge screw up. He received deferred prosecution on what ended up being a misdemeanor with a set of things to accomplish. He was suspended for 5 games. End of story.
Lots of respect for the great job you do on this blog
But I really think this headline is over the top. I have mixed feelings about Rainey returning to the team but your response to it is more than a tad hyperbolic. I confess I would rather read about other things – your opinion on this topic is known. Then again, you hold the power over the ‘post’ button!

I too think you’re WAY over-the-top on your never ending anti-Rainey-crusade, but aside from being more about YOU than Rainey at this point, it is FAR from being either the only or the biggest problem facing the Gators, personnel-wise (and all other-wise, for that matter).
What about this complete aversion to playing freshmen? So many reasons to do so by now, but something about Urban’s “Plan to Win”? Yeah, the results thus far really do support such inflexibility…
Rainey has been a bust really IMO
He was a top RB out of high school. Now hes not even the top RB on the team. Not even top 3.

Now that I think about it, this whole situation really annoys me.
If you visit any of our rival sites they are claiming the high horse and how the Gators only care about winning and blah blah.
But if this was some unknown player like a 3rd string FB and nobody knew who he was, rival fans would not give a shit. They wouldnt even care what he did, and they definatley wouldnt care if he was given a second chance.
All they care about is…Oh no, Meyer let another player come back after being in trouble. They dont care about the safety of young women, they dont care about Rainey learning a life lesson and setting examples for other people his age, they dont care about any of the real life issues of the matter, they just care about thier horse and how high Meyer will allow them to sit on it.
