Who Wants To Dance?

It looks like our Gators are going back to the Dance barring a major catastrophe. With the 75-62 blowout against Tennessee Billy Donovan also notched another 20 win season under his belt for the 12th season in a row, the longest streak in the SEC.

Star-divide

Tennessee came in ranked #17 with a six game winning streak against the Gators. They really needed this win because it keeps them alive for second place in the East. Possibly giving them a first round bye in the SEC tourney, and also giving them that swagger they have lacked since the Champs ran the court.

“More importantly, Florida probably secured a spot in the NCAA field for the first time in three years,” according to ESPN.

After the back to back champs all left to further their careers Billy D signed a #1 recruiting class and everything seemed to be going in the right direction. Then for the first time since Donovan became the coach at Florida, they missed the NCAA Tournament 2 years in a row. Well, were back! And some pessimist might complain that this team has no shot to go deep into the dance this year, but I honestly don’t care. Not making it into the dance three years in a row is like being a 40 year old virgin; at least we can say we got in, even if it wasn’t for long. And I never expected the 2000 team to make it to the Final either, and this team has the talent to be great as well.

Chandler Parsons, Vernon Macklin, Alex Tyus are all juniors. Actually the only senior on the entire team is Dan Werner. I know we will all dearly miss oh Danny boy, but I am pretty hope full for this team’s future. Even if you’re not a huge basketball fan, and football is your baby, look at it like this… Gators exposure is Gator exposure, no matter the sport.

Man this site needs to get some exposure or something, I don’t see how RTT or any other SEC team has booming sites and Im talking to myself most of the time here. I know we have as big or bigger fan base!

I guess my next question

Is what kind of seed are we reasonably be looking at? I sure would love to see us get out of the round of 64

I wondered the same thing

My guess is 7-9

I agree

I think a 6 seed is a possibility with the quality wins we have. But a 7-9 is alot more probable. If they get put into the Buffalo Bracket i might literally cry myself to sleep tonight…. right after i buy tickets of course haha

I'd hope they play in jacksonville or near it

but if we win against maybe Vandy and Georgia then I could see a 5th or 6th seed.

All depends on the SEC tourney in my opinion.

Could go as high as even a 5 seed if everything goes our way, but if we do poorly closer to an 8 seed. Still a lot to play for here in the next couple weeks.

Returning for next year

Didn’t Tyus almost leave last season? Is he a risk to make the jump after his junior year?

I think it is too early to determine a seed, we’d have to see how we do in our last 3 plus the SEC tourney. I still think 11-5 is a realistic hope for the SEC regular season. That would be pretty impressive.

TYUS has a chance to move on?

I just assumed he will need the extra year because he isnt that great. Hes too weak.

agreed, I don't anybody is going to opt out early

I could see Boynton doing it next year if he plays better cuz he reminds me of Roberson.

And Werner will finally be gone.

Tyus

I was thinking he was going to leave UF for the NBA after last season, but he instead announced he was transferring. I guess Billy-D talked him out of it.

by skigator93 on Feb 26, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

my take

I think he really didn’t want to play in the 5 spot and was going to transfer. But Macklin came along and allowed Tyus to go to where he wanted to play.

Yeah he did

Idk if were gonna be any worse off if Tyus decides to leave, althought we would be much better off if he stayed. Eric Murphy is said to be the best shooter on the team (says Billy) and hell give us that good midrange threat PF that tyus gave us. Not to mention he’s taller than tyus and could be more aggressive. Hopefully none of the other guys decide to leave, especially mack attack or dr. erving. IF they all stay and the two stud cruits we have signed actually live up to their hype, we’ll be the beast of the east yet again. boy that sounds good.

I like the ring of that

I think we would miss Tyus’ athleticism….another area the Gators are a little shallow in.
I don’t think Mack’ or Walker are NBA prospects yet. Maybe Kadji’s back will heal up too? We could alway use another big man….

yes - as of today

Here’s a link

Looks like we’d have to beat Vandy outright because we’d likely lose the tie breaker, which after the head to head, is division record. and since we are perfect against the west, I am guessing Vandy would have to be better against the East.

Yea

I wish I could argue with that, but I cant.

Does UGA have any wins against big teams this year?

Cuz that would help us a little and make it a little less shitty

Tyus

What happened to him Saturday?

Was that his best Dan Werner impression?

Also, don’t even get me started on what Werner was thinking trying to pass from a wide open shot with 1 second on the clock….

What is truly sad, I was not suprised at all by the loss.

Nor was I,

UGA plays tough at home. But that surely isn’t how I expected it to go down. UGA was coming off a Thursday night road game that went to overtime. They were playing on less than 48 hours rest and they are just as shallow as us. However, UGA looked like the team with fresh legs and we looked tired.

Damn these sports writers. Make up your damn mind!

By most accounts, the Gators (21-12) were probably already in the NCAA Tournament prior to Friday’s game.

First all we need was a win at Tenn to get in. Then all we needed was a win at Auburn to get in. After we beat Auburn so many credible writers and sites had the Gators getting in. NOW this morning I cant find one bracket that has the Gators in it.

I learned a lesson this season, dont get your hopes up when everyone says, “they are in with this win.” I guess there is still a chance, but the complete change of stories in just 1-2 days it doesnt look like were getting in AGAIN. DAMMNIT!

I have learned...

that the “Bracketology Experts” are a lot like the NFL Draft Experts and Meteorologists….a lot of the time, they are just pissing in the wind like the rest of us.
