NFL Combine Preview: Joe Haden

CB Joe Haden (Scheduled to work out with Group 10 or 11 on Tuesday, March 2)

Size and Statistics: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. 218 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 34 passes defended, eight interceptions. 2009 First Team AP All-American.

In 140 characters or less: An immediate impact player and future All-Pro lockdown cornerback.

Strengths: Can read the receiver or quarterback and breaks quickly on the ball while it is in the air. Very fast, especially when closing. Cuts well, too. Haden's long arms can pop receiver at the line or reach back for a deflection. Very smooth when rolling into coverage or coming in on a blitz or run plays.

Weaknesses: The one time I met him, Haden seemed smaller than he is on the field. If I had to guess, I'd say he's closer to 5-foot-10 than 6-foot. I guess that could be a weakness.

Character: He came to Florida as a receiver, then started every game of his three year career at corner. Haden was never a problem and also offered to run the Wildcat last season as he was a quarterback in high school.

Where will he go: Top-10, as high as three to Tampa Bay or seven to Cleveland.

stop being a homer....

and thinking that all the Gators are going to be drafted by the Bucs!

As a Falcons fan, I don’t want to see any former Gators on the Bucs….you can have all the FSU players you want. I hear Craphonso Thorpe and Dekote Fagg are both available to help the Bucs’ WR woes.

Bucs is a realistic chance

Not at #3 but if they trade out of three to move back about 5 slots, they need a corner to replace Barber. So hes not being a homer.

Mocks have the Bucs looking at Eric Berry and the Browns looking at Haden. I’m trying to make the case that it is just as likely that the Bucs take Haden and Browns take Berry. That’s assuming Suh and Gerald McCoy go 1-2.

Yea Suh or McCoy should be the 1st choice

But taking a safety at #3 is unheard of, if Suh or McCoy are gone I would prefer they trade down and pick up Haden or McClain.

But if they cant Dez Bryant would be a nice pick, since the Bucs have never had a great QB/WR combo ever.

I would say his weakness is;

He started his career at CB in college, so he may have a lot more to learn to be a instant contributor in the NFL.

I think Haden starts from day 1

He’s got the skills….and without all the mouth that most talented corners have,

I’ll need to find a new favorite Gator for next season…..
