Is Joe Haden worth it?
Some of you may already know me, but I am a writer from Dawgs By Nature, the SBN site for the Cleveland Browns.
If you have paid any attention to the draft process I am sure you know that the Browns have been the favorite for quite some time to land University of Florida CB Joe Haden.
I have been doing some film study of my own and have been slow to get on the draft Haden at pick 7 bandwagon.
So I am here asking, what am I missing on Joe Haden? I wasn't bothered by his 40 time at the combine. If you watch tape, you can see that he has no issue running stride for stride with any WR out there. What really concerned me was that he seemed a step slow in pass break-ups. When he jumped patterns he seemed to be breaking passes up, not intercepting passes. Not a huge deal in college, but at the next level those will probably end up being completed passes.
Also, it seemed to me that opposing offenses never seemed to game plan away from Haden. Opponents didn't seem to mind throwing at Haden, even though they knew where he would be on every down playing the boundary corner.
His INT's seem to come off really poor passes (LSU, Tennessee this season or Bama the prior season). He never seems to make a play on the ball.
So I am asking the Florida faithful, what have you all seen that makes Haden worth a top 10 pick?
Please be kind and use good grammar.

His ability to shut down every WR in the SEC
He was key to any blitz package we had, because he covered any guy by himself.
Exactly what Kujo said
Joe Haden is not a ball hawking DB like a Eric Berry. He is a shut down corner. I respect that you have watched tape on him, but I personally have watched every single game in college he ever played.
- He ran a 4.4 in the 40 at the Gator pro day btw.
- Haden is a solid tackler, border line excellent.
- He has a long wing span to contend with taller recievers for jump balls
- He has good hands, I dont think I ever seen him drop a sure pick. Ever.
- He played QB in high school, and converted to CB his freshmen year. = Very Athletic.
- His ability to turn his hips and run stride for stride with ANY WR is amazing
- Some CBs have trouble with big WRs, some have trouble with speedy recievers, Some have trouble with excellent route runners, and very few can do all of the above. And the rare ones that can do all of the above its rare they also are great run stoppers.
All in all he is the best CB in the draft, and will end up being an immediate impact on your team. And what really gets people excited is he has only been playing DB for 3 seasons!!!! So much more potential.
I am sure you visit the Mock draft site, not sure if you read thier scouting report on Haden but here it is
He is pretty acurate with everything he says. One thing I dont agree with is his knock on being able to cover bigger recievers. Just watch the Alabama SEC CG. Haden was our only bright spot, he held Julio Jones (6’ 4’’) one of the best recievers in the nation to 2 catches for minimal a gain.
Also I am not sure what makes you say teams never avoided Haden…Because teams rarely went to Hadens WR. The problem that may have brought you to that conclusion is the Gators run a lot of stunts and blitzes, and Haden at times would switch to a zone defense while one of the nickel backs blitzed, which really confused opposing teams. Try looking at the total stats of how many times the opposing teams best WR had a big game…that should show you how skilled he is.

You are right
Haden is extremely overrated and you should do whatever is within your power to make sure that he doesn’t end up a Cleveland Brown!!! Please.
ha!
seriously i cant help anyone that doesnt realize haden isnt a top 10 prospect. just look at all his games this past year, not just highlights or snippets, you will see a player in complete control of his position. he has the ability to shut down anyone, anytime. teams didnt game plan away from him, because UF’s defense was so good. game plan away from him and you game plan right into another NFL ready prospect…..

I challenge anyone to find a better cover DB
he may not hit like Erik Berry, but he is better at sticking with his guy.
Joe Haden
Joe is a pretty good guy. What in the hell could he have done to deserve going to Cleveland? Cleveland is the city that defines “suck”. Even Jim Brown retired early because he came to the realization that Cleveland sucks. I believe it’s written on Paul Brown’s tombstone " Cleveland sucks". Ohio has some damn good people that are tough, savvy and downright good ole boys but they never go to Cleveland because they know that Cleveland….you know.
not to Cleveland though
even though that team is legendary unlike the cavs. Maybe more to like Seattle, or the more likeable Tennessee titans
Im kind of excited
That my Bucs may get a steal late in the draft on Major Wright. He seems to be flying under the radar.
