Gators pick up Rutgers G Mike Rosario for 2011-12

Scout reported today that Rutgers guard Mike Rosario will transfer from Rutgers to Florida. A sophomore last season, Rosario would sit out this season and begin his Gator career in 2011-12 with two years of eligibility.

Rosario was a 2008 McDonald's All-American and averaged 16.7ppg for the 15-17 Scarlet Knights. His freshman and sophomore seasons were incredibly similar with about 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists in 33 minutes. Rosario played at historic St. Anthony's High School in Jersey City and was anticipated to go to North Carolina or USC.

Rosario also gives UF an insurance policy if Erving Walker continues to regress and Austin Rivers ends up at Duke.

I wonder why he transferred

33 minutes a game isn’t bad at all. I’m guessing he wanted to go to a bigger school?

Or a coaching problem….didnt Rutgers fire their coach at the end of the year?? i could be wrong.

Yeah

His coach is on the outs and he obviously doesn’t like losing.

This is a Nice pick up

Talent wise, he is a former McDonald’s All-American (from Pat Doley at the Gainesville Sun). Character wise I have no clue, but from his statements, it seemed like he made it clear he was tired of losing (15-17 last year at Rutgers).

Rosario says, "The biggest thing Florida offered me was ’We’re going to win.’ "

Lets hope Bily Boy can keep that promise the next couple years. Maybe well get some more big transfers. Those transfers have become a bigg key for us recently, hopefully itll stay that way, theyre a good way to get quality players with experience.

Let's hope

That Billy isn’t planning to rely on transfers. Macklin is alright but he would not have gotten much PT at Georgetown behind Greg Monroe, and this would have been his senior year.

I’d rather Billy brought in the Greg Monroe’s rather than accepting Vernon Macklin’s.

I like the Rosario pick up, but let’s not hope or plan on getting ’big transfers." Besides, Billy is just getting back to bringing in All-Americans, and guys he can connect to and coach.

Get ready for a huge disappointment.

He has regressed from when he was named All-American. People think he actually has lost a lot of his skill since hitting college. He isn’t fast enough or quick enough to play at the professional level and needs talent around him to truly get anything done. Here at Rutgers he made a bad situation worse by sporting a big ego and ignoring team fundamentals (and teamwork). He shoots a lot and scores because of that fact. There have been plenty of games throughout his two year career where he put up what look like decent numbers, but when compared to his number of shots they are actually very poor. Doesn’t work very well off the ball, to be totally honest, and if frustrated will disappear completely from a game. Came up very small in important Big East contests (his only highlight for the win over then #7 Georgetown was a three pointer missing and being slammed in by a teammate). Wows with a dunk because it is not expected when watching him play (check out the Saint Anthony’s documentary from PBS to be amazed at his ability to dunk in game – not Dr. J but reasonably impressive for his size/height). Also very poor with his outside shot selection. Word on the street is that the kid butted heads with former coach Fred Hill nearly every practice. He is the definition of double edged sword, because he brings talent to the table but in a troubled package. Good luck working him out, he hasn’t been that good since he left the teaching/coaching of the renowned Coach Hurley of Saint Anthony’s.
