The Gators fell a few games short, losing to Stanford 4-3 in the Women's NCAA Championship Tuesday in Athens, Ga.

Florida needed to win 3 of 6 singles matches to clinch a victory after earning the doubles point. But Stanford jumped out to a 2-1 lead, winning on courts 2 and 4. UF's No. 1 Lauren Embree won in straights to give the Gators their second point, effectively making the final matches a best of three.

After Stanford won on court 6 in straights, UF's Joanna Mather rallied on court 5. She won in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. That turned all attention to court three, where UF's Marrit Boonstra dropped the first set to Stanford's Mallory Burdette. Boonstra won a second set tie-break to bring the championship to a final set. But the senior Boonstra lost the third, 7-5. She finished her Gator career with a 77-16 record.

The Gators finished the season 29-3 and were undefeated in SEC regular season and tournament play.
