Florida vs Boise St
Florida fans: I am an avid Boise St. fan, but I also enjoy Florida football. Especially that juggernaut offense you guys have had the last few seasons.
I wanted an opinion from Florida fans on a Florida vs. Boise St game - seeing how the schools are opposite in geographic location, yet share similar qualities such as kicking a$$ while wearing orange and blue.
Here is the question: How well do you think Florida would do playing outside the southeastern part of the U.S., say in Bronco Stadium in November, when its 20 degrees and snowy?
Last time Florida played in the northern part of the U.S., they got smashed 38-17 by Syracuse. That was clear back in 1991. Same year they won their first SEC title and went 10-2. (So they weren't a bad team)
(Of course we know last time BSU ventured south, they got destroyed by Georgia)
But the question remains, could Florida play dominant football outside of their comfort zone? The administrative scheduling over the last 20 years looks as if they have no confidence in their own players and coaches playing in the northern part of the U.S. - even if the price was right. Please correct me or give me some feedback, I just want to know the answer to this riddle.
Please be kind and use good grammar.

Syracuse plays in a dome....and it was 1991.
So im not really sure thats a good indication. And i think its safe to say every southern team has problems playing in the cold. Thats why the NCAA made conferences so teams dont have to battle difficult weather and the opposing team in the same game unless they totally want to. So why schedule games in the north when you dont have to? Northern teams for the most part do the same thing with the south. So i think this is a bit of a stalemate topic.
I wrote 1991, but I forgot that game was played in a dome
I realize conferences are typically aligned based on geographic location, but I’m talking OOC (out of conference) games. And teams from the north seem to go down south much more often than teams from the south going north (obviously because the weather is usually better in the south no matter what time of year)
This is a very interesting topic as to why Florida and others don’t venture north very often. I suppose we can safely assume southeastern teams would get smashed the minute the temperature dropped below 60 degrees. I’m not sure what else to conclude.
Should be fun watching Tebow play in Denver.

60's a giant exaggeration
Maybe below 30, but 60 is fair weather. Both teams would be on equal footing.
I doubt Boise in November would be any worse for the Gators than Gainesville in September would be for the Broncos though.

Understandable
It just seems like anyone can play in the hot, sunny weather, especially with how well conditioned players are these days. Its why old folks retire to Florida and not Alaska? Because the weather is easier to be active in. I think that says enough in its own.
I don’t believe teams from the North would struggle near as much playing in warm weather as teams from the South would playing in cold weather.

You haven't spent June through October in Gainesville
hot is an understatement. It’s brutal and it will ruin anyone who isn’t used to it.

don't take this the wrong way but personally
I think Boise St. is among the most overrated teams in college football(that Oklahoma game is an instant classic) along with USC, and Ohio St., I would have been a little more impressed if you beat Oregon on the road. My prediction Florida:63 Boise:14, and that’s my prediction for the season opener against Ole Miss in ’12 cuz your in Mississippi in the dreaded southern summer heat
...in dixie land i'll take my stand to root for Atlanta
No worries,
Any opinion is good. So your saying Florida would play well in windy, snowy, 20 degree weather? Fair enough.
Hopefully this year’s opener for Boise against Va Tech will get the players a little more acclimated with the humidity in D.C.

They beat Oregon in 08
Boise State beat Oregon in Autzen stadium in 08. I believe the score was 37-32 which was Kellen Moore’s first away game.

I kind of disagree
I think Boise can play with anyone, provided they play at home. I think they face a more difficult challenge on the road – not because of weather, but because the blue turf gives Boise an unsual edge that is negated anywhere else.
I also think the Gators would struggle in bad winter weather. The reason the Gators don’t play up north in the winter is because it makes no sense to do so. The Gators are not paid to play road games. We pay other teams to come to the Swamp without a return game the following year. The payout is around $500k, while the UAA makes millions with the extra home game. There just isn’t a good reason for the Gators to ever venture north for an OOC game – especially in the late fall when it gets cold.
That being said – I could see UF playing Utah someday in a home and home – but only because of Meyer’s history there. If that happened, then yes – I would be concerned about the weather in Salt Lake City – especially if it was late in the season.
I like Boise State’s colors.
I like Boise State's colors
But hate the field. I just cant watch a home game without getting a headache.
Florida would
be fine if they ventured to Boise. I’m not saying the game would be a track meet, but it’s not as if playing in colder weather would make Jeff Demps become slow, or Urban’s offense ineffective. The reality is that Florida has better athletes at almost every position, and yes that plays better in the south with beautiful weather, but it hardly means that athletes would be rendered ineffective otherwise. I think saying that “anyone” could play in the heat, as opposed to the difficulty of the cold is naive. As someone who has moved back and forth between cold weather (upstate NY) and warm weather (Gainesville, Orlando) I personally found the shift to warm much more difficult. I think Boise would have a much more difficult time playing in Gainesville, than Florida would have in Boise, but just my opinion.
Awesome
these are all good posts, thanks

Hmmm...
First of all, I would love to see that game! I have a great deal of respect for Boise State and wish them well always. I believe that the reason why Florida stays in state and schedules so many homes games is financial for the most part, but any digs at our resulting schedule are fair. That said, we do play in the SEC and have an annual out-of-conference rivalry game with FSU, so it’s not as if we have much margin of error to schedule an awesome series such as you suggest.
I think that the Gators would do well in winter conditions because they’re a run heavy team to begin with. Sure, they like to use their speed out wide to take shots down field, but the passing game has a ton of crossing routes, screens and timing patterns, so it could succeed in a scaled-back form. It also doesn’t hurt to have extraordinary special teams and a defense for all teams at all times. UF can play anyone, any time, anywhere and expect to win; that’s the luxury of having consistent best recruiting class and championship experience.
I’m glad that Boise’s playing the big boys at least once during the regular season and I know it’s not their fault that they haven’t been back to the SEC since that blowout at Georgia, but that does paint the picture at this point. BSU is set to finally make their championship run, but I’d take my Gators over your Broncos in a season-finale and give the points happily.
