Get Ready GatorNation!!!!pt.3 Running Backs
Im back, in my last piece I had a lot of bad comments that really disrespectful and unnecessary, look if you don't like it don't read it , its not hard. Well today I'm here to talk to you about the Florida Gators running backs. Last year, wasn't our year for the running game , because of distractions, for example : Jeffrey Demps,Emmanuel Moody was hurt during the season while Mike Gillislee was still learning how to be a Florida Gator running back. In fact, Moody only played 12 of the 14 games last year because of injury and did not play against Alabama.
The offensive line was new, it was also Steve Addazio first year as offensive coordinator. I think it was a good move to put Chris Rainey with the WRs , he is an explosive player ,but he is too small weight wise to play running back he is only 175 lbs ,the sophomore Mike Gillislee weigh more than Rainey(190 lbs) and he didn't get a redshirt. Rainey also lacks alot of endurance, he makes a couple of bad decisions and he only average 6.5 ypc last year, he average 7.8 in 2008. I think a guy with that kind of speed, and lots of explosiveness that's not strong enough to play running back should play wide receiver, so very good move by Florida.
Now that Tim Tebow is gone, the RBs will get more carries and show their abilities as a running back. Usually you would see a bunch of RBs have over 100 carries, nope that's not the case with the Florida Gators last year, because Timmy Tebow hogged all the carries last year. Really, how many times would you see a quarterback have 217 carries , Jeremy Masoli only had 130 carries last year and he was a better explosive runner than Tebow. Now that John Brantley is our quarterback , expect a running back maybe two to have over 100 carries for the first time since 2007 with Keston Moore when he had 104 carries, and start to develop a running game.
If our running backs stay healthy we will have the best running back core in the nation.I say that because all these running backs can run 4.40-4.50 speed on a 40 yard dash, except for probably Moody, we also have one of the strongest offensive line when your talking about Pouncey,Gilbert,Johnson,Nixon, and Patchman ( if he is healthy ). See we didn't have a good year running the ball the ball last year and we still had more total rushing yards than Alabama ,3105 to 3011 yds and in yards per a carry 5.6 to 5.0, imagine this year if we stay healthy,we didn't beat them because passing game was horrible. Florida was in the red zone twice inside the 10 yard line on one possession Tebow easily miss his target on a #rd down play when another man was open and the other time a accurate quarterback would have threw it high enough for his man to catch it unfortunately Tim Tebow didn't he threw it way to low and Javier Arenas easily picked that off it was right in his hand.
Jeffrey Demps, will be the starter and will have 100 carries, if stay healthy. The Florida Gators will use Emmanuel Moody a lot this season, especially in the redzone and short yardage plays. I like both running backs, but I like Mike Gillislee better, he average about 8.6 ypc last year better than anybody in the nation , with the minimum of 30 carries. If Florida gives him at least 60+ carries he will have over 650+yds, Mike Gillislee has that 4.45 speed and the strength, I mean he weighed about 180 lbs coming in as a freshman now he's 190 lbs that's really for a guy with lots of speed , he will start next year when Jeffrey Demps leaves hopefully.
Mack Brown Jr. is a incoming freshman with tons of talent, he had 1000yds rushing in just only 7 games in high school due to injury. The only problem I'm worried aboutis his durability , he got hurt all through high school, sometimes i wonder how he'll survive in college, but I think Urban Meyer will figure it out. If he can get stronger he will get more than 8.0 ypc this year.
If I was Florida I would manage the carries my way. I would give Jeffrey Demps no more than 210 carries ,then I'll give Moody and Gillislee no more than 105 carries and I'll give Mack Brown no more than 45 carries that should be enough carries to share out. I'm telling you now if we stay healthly this will be the best running attack Florida ever had since 1996.

Yeah. Good post. I agree with you but for some very minor differences.
I think Jeff Demps at best case should get somewhere between 150-175 carries. I think anything more puts him at serious risk of injury to which we can not afford.
Mike Gillislee and Moody should be good splitting 200 carries. Moody has failed to prove himself due to injuries/in Meyer’s doghouse for whatever reason and Gillislee while impressive in his small sample size, hasn’t proved he can handle a full seasons worth of carries just yet. I can see Moody being in on sure rushing plays, short yardage..etc and Gillislee handling the duties when Demps needs a breather, is a little nicked up..etc.
Mack Brown on the other hand…as you said hasn’t shown the ability yet (at least in HS) to stay healthy. As he was beat-up for the Under Armor game and most of his HS career as you pointed out. So I think that 50 carries in garbage time is plenty. Unless the injury bug hits, which it will eventually.
Also…I still think it would be a good idea for Rainey to get some carries (and I still think he will) even though he is now officially listed on the depth chart as a WR.

I disagree with the notion that Florida had a "bad running year"
2007-2009 were the best running years in Florida history.

Demps is gonna have a great year
but I must ask, What happened to Chris Reiney
"It's here, it's here, it's finally here" :Strongbad on football season
he's too small
he only weighs 175 lbs and gillislee is like 190 lbs so they had to move him
Mike Gillislee #23 ''THE BEAST''
ok that's interesting
let’s hope Chris has good hands

Moody
I wouldn’t sell Moody short. He’s plenty fast, definitely as fast if not faster than Gillislee.
Moody has always had the best vision of all the running backs, but he’s also the biggest and strongest, so they call more off tackle or blast palys for him than sweeps or draws. I could see Demps and Moody both with more than 850 yards this year, with Mike somewhere near 200 and Rainey somewhere near 400.
They are still going to throw Chris back there a few times a game, just like Percy.

Demps is the fastest of the group
he’s like Chris Johnson

no way
idc what anybody says chris rainey with not have more rushing yards than mike gillislee this year and if would be stupid if the gators really think rainey can possibly be another percy he not as big or as explosive we dont if chris rainey has any hands and plus rainey keep making bad decisions so im happy he is not halfback
Mike Gillislee #23 ''THE BEAST''
I agree.
Rainey most likely will not have nearly as many rushing yards as Gillislee will. Unless injuries occur. And…Rainey isn’t the next Percy, which is why Urban and Co. have said that the “Percy Position” will be handled on a “committee” basis.

Are you insinuating
that are a few commentors on here who do not watch the games?
No one on here can really give an accurate depiction of how good Gillislee really is against first team SEC defenses, because that’s not who he ran the ball against. It’s like anyone of saying in 2006 that Mon Williams was going to be beast because of what he did in 2005 against Southern Charolette (I beilieve). We all saw Mon’s potential, but we can’t go convincing ourselves that Gillislee is the next big thing until he really gives us a reason in meaningful minutes, not at the end of the game when the contest has already been decided.
oh and I most definitely watch every single game.

Are you kidding?
So the best person to spell Demps, and arguably our second to third best running back over the past two seasons, is somehow not going to touch the ball more than a kid who ran mop-up duty?
I like Gillislee. I think he’s got potential. However, I’m not going to fool myself into thinking that for some reason we are not going to stick with proven runners over unproven runners. The whole reason they are moving Chris to WR is to employ him in all those slot receiver reverse runs. Think about it. I can either fake the reverse to Rainey and pitch to Demps or give it to Rainey. With two speed demons, the defense would be in a tizzy of which side of field to commit to. That play will happen at least 5 times a game, take it to the bank.
