LSU loss?

Well….To be honest…I don’t know. I’m thinking they will lose two regular season games. And I wasn’t going to say Tenn, UGA or F$U unless I really thought they could lose to them. So I went with LSU instead of South Carolina, MSU…etc.

TIFWIW. To me he’s like Jeff Bowden(came in the coattails of success, uses said success to recruit like crazy. Then takes a dump when its time to develop the blue chippers)

Yeah. Les Miles doesn’t really know how to develop talent that’s for sure.

Sort of like Larry Coker.........

He coasted on talent, upper-classmen leadership(from the previous regime). I think his record since speaks volumes.

That is how Meyer, Jim Tressel, Bobby Stoops got their first title(s) as well.

And Larry Coker was given 5 years after his national championship before he got fired. Les Miles is about to begin year 4.

We shall see. I think though that Miles is twice the coach that Coker is.

Top Defensive Freshman: Matt Elam, DB

Defensive Player to Watch: Will Hill, DB

This is clearly just for fun. I have no idea how we will be this season. I am pretty confident. I even think we have a chance at beating Bama if Brantley can utilize all of our weapons. The Cocks our under rated, its definitely a trap game. They have a awesome running game, and if Garcia can finally step up…watch out!

After the first couple cake games I think I will have a better idea of this team. Right now is just a wild guess.

Rainey and Debose should do VERY well this season. They will be our main slot guys, the ball will probably go to both of them very often whether its option runs like the old Harvin days or short slants and outs where they can pick up LOTS OF YAC.

Our LB core is very under rated, and Jenkins, Black, Hill give us awesome DB’s, I am not sure how the other CB will do though. So the only weak spots I see is the new CB replacement. The D-line looks really solid. All in all our defense is pretty under rated.

The entire season depends on Brantley. He will have Heisman like numbers if he can find a way to get Debose, Rainey, Moody, Demps the ball. They will do the rest for him…

Ahhhh. You’ve got the second regular season loss for the South Carolina game. Like I was saying above…I’m expecting to see two losses in the regular season. It’s just a matter of which one (other than Alabama) it could be.

I was going to include Matt Elam in my list as well…just not sure how much playing time he is actually going to get (not counting special teams).

And wow. I completely forgot about AJ Jones for some reason. Solid choice there.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 23, 2010 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope so. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the defense. And if he does crack that line-up as the 4th or 5th DB that would be awesome.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 23, 2010 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Just a fan rambling

but ….I don’t see the Gators losing to Bama this year. Urban Meyer is the most intense coach I know of and he has had a long season to analyze Saban and his team. The emotional edge and the ambush factor went to Bama last year. They were loose and we were tight, both offensively and defensively. It seemed we were doomed to play out the game with the tried and true offensive scheme and the Tide defense was ready for it. Meyer and Co. have a whole new set of tools in the box and Brantley has the kind of arm to scatter a defense. I think Mike Gillislee will get more carries and have more impact than a lot of people give him credit for. I do kind of wish we had a bruising running back for short yardage situations but then I’m just a rambling fan, thank heavens we got Urban.

by renegator on Aug 23, 2010 10:04 PM EDT reply actions

That bruising running back you wish for was supposed to be Moody, but we all know that story.

And I hope you are right about ‘Bama but to be honest I just don’t see it. But stranger things have happened.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 23, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Gillislee

He hits the hole hard and fast – no dancing around. You don’t have to be 240 lbs to be a good short yardage back.

I’m not sure we go into Bryant Denny in front of what will be a record crowd for the State of Alabama, during Prime Time, and take out the defending National Champs. That said, if we lose that game and are fortunate to meet them again in Atlanta, I’d like our chances then,,,,

by skigator93 on Aug 23, 2010 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

True. It is very hard to beat a team twice in one season. Bobby Bowden said it best in early January of 1997 when he told one of his assistants before the game started that these weren’t the same Gators they beat two months prior.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 24, 2010 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

It was not only that the Seminoles won the first game

it was the way they won it. Bowden admitted that they hit Danny not just to the whistle but to the echo of the whistle. They barely escaped defeat at Doak Campbell with a friendly officiating corp. Spurrier called them on it and said that they would not tolerate the same treatment in the Sugar Bowl. I think most poultry had enough sense to read the tide in the championship game. I could not get one of my Seminole buddies to watch the game with me. Even Bowden knew that his day of reckoning had come.

Yeah. Totally agree.

I think we have a chance to beat Bama.

It’s so hard to gauge because this years Gator team is untested, and the Tide’s offense looks like it will only get better this season. I wouldnt put money on the game thats for sure. But if we go into the game undefeated, I sadly will sadly have high hopes.

Their defense won’t be the same as last year’s (on paper) and their offense will be more balanced than last year’s (on paper)…but our defense won’t be the same (on paper) and our offense is supposed to be more balanced (on paper).

I see what you mean.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 27, 2010 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Hard and Fast

North South runners make excellent backs, just ask Emmitt Smith. He was good at getting you at least 3 yards and he’s no where near 240. Gillislee will be good, maybe not this year, he’s still got some pretty good horses in front him, namely Jeff Demps.

Get out of my House!

by ECFIVESTER on Aug 24, 2010 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Demps and Moody are the ones who are in front of him on the depth chart at RB. As of August 6th, per Meyer.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 24, 2010 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Depth chart

From what I saw out of Gillislee last season he appeared to be a better contact runner. I don’t think he’ll ever have the speed that Demps and Rainey have but but he hits harder and maintains balance in heavy traffic. Emmanuel Moody is a bigger body but remains an enigma. I had high hopes that he would be able to pound inside but he seems a tad fragile. At any rate, it’s almost here Gator fans. Buckle up Buttercup! Here come the Gators! Good luck to all and hopefully I’ll see you at The Swamp.

Exactly. Almost football season.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 25, 2010 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions

I take Meyer's depth Chart

with a grain of salt. Past experiences say that the Runningbacks are not the only ones who run the ball in Florida’s offense. I fully expect Chris Rainey to get a good share of the ball totting duties.

Let’s not forget about Mack Brown, from everything I’ve read on him is he’s a burner and a good shifty north south runner.

Get out of my House!

by ECFIVESTER on Aug 25, 2010 7:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh no doubt that WR’s touch the ball in Meyer’s offense. But it appears that this year we actually have RB’s that can handle the job without a Tebow or a Harvin. Hopefully anyway.

Nobody is forgetting about Mack Brown. He just needs to stay healthly so we don’t begin to forget about him.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 25, 2010 8:34 AM EDT up reply actions

He hasn't reached Moody Status yet

and as always we can medical redshirt him in his freshman year if needed.

But Rainey is still more of a running back in my eyes. And until I see it for more than 3 games (the UT game is the one that will really tell me) I can’t really expect to see Rainey lining up to run crossing routes as much as I can see him running wide receiver screens, reverse plays, and deep outs/fly patterns.

But that’s just me. I’m sure if Urban is telling the complete truth and we are analyzing it correctly, then Rainey will be the new slot receiver. ( although I tend to believe that Omarius Hines is the best receiver on the team, followed by Deonte and Carl Moore.)

Get out of my House!

by ECFIVESTER on Aug 25, 2010 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh I consider Rainey to be more of a RB than a WR, no doubt about it.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 25, 2010 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Rainey's Play

Maybe Rainey will be the new recipient of that reverse cross shovel pass out of the option that Hernandez received about 300 times last season.

by skigator93 on Aug 25, 2010 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I hadn’t thought about that but now that you mention it…I can see it. That would be interesting to see as that play requires some skill in the art of breaking a potential tackle or two.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 25, 2010 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions

and

once you get beyond the linebackers – it’s a race with the DBs….a race that Hernandez was ill suited for, but one that Rainey can win.

In the SEC, playing any one of these teams there is a potential to walk away with a loss.

Bama
LSU
USC
UGA
UT
Auburn
Ole Miss
Miss State
Arkansas

Exactly. And for some reason the Gators (regardless of who is coach) always seem to lose at least one game a year to a team they shouldn’t.

Since I’ve followed them that has only NOT happened twice. 1995 and 2009.

Talent no. Experience is another issue.

The Once and Future King

by FlaGators on Aug 31, 2010 8:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Perhaps so

However, “experience” in the realm of college football is a relative term. Having senior players that have performed at the level of intensity both physically and emotionally that is necessary for championship play, is critical. A handful of leaders can inspire a group of young men with raw talent to play at a level far beyond their years. Momentum swings easily in college ball and a well- timed, gutsy play can set a more experienced team back on their heels. A great coach can light a big fire that consumes marginal advantages of more experienced teams. Take it from a not-so-young guy with dings in his skull, “experience” is vastly overrated.
