It's time to put the cleats in the garage and pull out the Jordans.

All this football talk is exciting but there is only so much we can debate before it gets old. We got a Basketball team to watch, and they have plenty to talk about. This years team is fun and frustrating to watch, you never know what your gonna get. Some times you get a top 10 team that looks like they can stand toe to toe with any one and other times you get a team who can't make shot if their mothers life depended on it. It's a long season though, and like I said there is plenty to talk about;

Alex Tyus is no longer the predator.

Kenny Boynton is probably our best player even if he has off nights here and there.

Vernon Macklin looks like hes learned how to score in the paint.

Chandler Parsons is playing a different role this year and its taking a tole on his offensive game. But if he can get his shot back, and his new role as a big man look for a lot more double doubles from him.

Erving Walker is really fast and can shoot wide open threes but is still not a very good point guard.

Patrick Young plays really hard, hopefully well see more then that as the season goes on and he matures.

That's all I got.

...Oh and this team is in huge slump at the free throw line this year. If it ever ends, look out SEC!

Unfortunately, I don't get the U

Tried to watch online, but without success.

BTW, I voted “someone else.” I’m a big Wilbekin fan. He should be starting at PG for the Gators right now. And he’s only 17.

wow I didnt know he is only 17!

I have Verizon FIOS. Is the U not a normal channel…Now that I think about it when I had Directv I dont think I had that channel. Cant remember.

Kyle McClanahan!

No idea who that is, but the student were really happy to see even the bench warmer score.

84-59 over Rhode Island

This game was fun to watch, so many great dunks. Check it out on sports center if you missed it.

It's a toss up

I really like Patric Young, but Scottie Wilbikin brings happiness to my eyes because unlike Walker, he doesn’t go around turning the ball over like he A) doesn’t care and B) forgets every game that no one on offense knows how to cut to the basket, move to an opening in the zone during a drive, or that he can’t make that pass anyways.

I have to believe that what I am seeing is the rebirth of the Men’s basketball program to regular NCAA tournie appearances, especially in the forth coming years.

if that's the case, Billy D has some work to do on the recruiting trail...

We’re losing some players next year…like all 3 big men?

I also want to see Erik Murphy continue to mature into a viable option….when he’s not hanging out with Vince, Turtle and Drama of course.

by skigator93 on Jan 4, 2011 11:33 AM EST up reply actions

I think

Patric and Erik are viable replacements to Alex and Vernon, also Will Yeguete is a good player, and Cody Larsons will be in the picture as well next year. I do think we need to find another center to back up Patric for next year, someone who can push him to develop offensively. But I like the prospect of getting past these older players who seemed to come to Florida with too much of a sense of entitlement only to accomplish well below their capacity.

A lot of the young guys seem to have alot of potential.

I am excited to see how much playing time they will get as the season goes on. Like you said Wilbikin actually knows how to run plays instead of Walker just running as fast as he can up court to the hoop and pass at the last second.

I just dropped by to check

up on the Gators basketball team. Looks like to me the footballers are still in control. It’s hard to believe that the only game on the front page was last year 12/31/2010. Do these people even know about Billy and his team?

Football will always be King at UF

There is no sense in thinking or hoping otherwise. Billy Donovan knows that, I think he finds comfort in it, it means less pressure on him. Although if the Basketball team did not tank those two years immediately after the back to back Championships the fan base would be a heck of a lot stronger.

Exactly. Football is king and basketball starts in March. Conference tourney time to be exact.

More aptly for fair weather Gators

the week before the conference tourney, when we usually play Kentucky, Tennessee and sometimes Georgia.

Just not interested in games against Rhode Island, Flagler College and other scrums. I’ll watch Florida and Arkansas basketball once SEC play is in full swing and it is getting close to March and the SEC and NCAA tournaments.

OH

I know you’re not a fair weather fan FlaGators, I’m just saying, most Gator fans, like you said, could care less about the early basketball schedule, I actually find solace in it when they play well, anxiety when they don’t, just like football, too much of that going on this year, oh well.

But of course football is still king like you said.

Still not interested in that game. OOC games in basketball are tricky. A lot of “Bracket Busters” but also a lot of scrubs.

I always switched immediately after the bowl game

I’m not a big NFL fan, my wife talked me into agreeing to not watch sports on Sunday. I had to choose my battle and I figured, I could go with out the NFL as long as I still had the Gators and then the NBA. The NBA was easier to get away with because my father-in-law is a big Utah Jazz fan.

It is just the opposite

at Kentucky. We are basketball 24/7 365 days a year. They throw in a little of the odd shaped ball when necessary. Good Luck Gators!
