Gerald Christian, Robert Clark To Transfer From Florida
The 2011 Gators football season just keeps getting better! Florida just announced, with a quote from Will Muschamp, that Gerald Christian and Robert Clark will transfer from Florida:
"Both of these players have expressed a desire for more playing time and felt that it would be in their best interests to transfer," said Coach Muschamp. "We wish them both the best of luck and appreciate their contributions to the program."
"I’m looking for an opportunity to play more," said Christian. "I have no bad feelings about Florida or the coaching staff, I just want to get a fresh start and see the field more."
"I’ve enjoyed being a part of the Gator program but at the same time I’m excited about future opportunities to play more," said Clark. "I will have nothing but good memories from my time in Gainesville."
The translation, here: Christian, a tight end, and Clark, a wide receiver, likely said something like "I want more playing time" to Muschamp, who said something like "Uh, that's not happening." And so Florida's anemic passing game loses two more little-used options, Florida's "You can play from Day One" pitch to recruits gets a little more potent, and the beat-up, depleted Gators lose more of the precious little depth they have.
Christian has four catches for 72 yards in 2011, and caught John Brantley's lone touchdown pass against Kentucky. Clark has zero catches in 2011, but he muffed the final punt return in Florida's 17-6 loss to Auburn. Additionally, he hauled in seven passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in 2011.

Christian hurts a little bit, but Clark was a packaged deal … so yeah. No worries there.

Yeah. Maybe a 1.5 hurting on a scale of 1-10. Clark actually is a -50 considering his only 1 contribution to the season was CONTRIBUTING FOR THE WRONG TEAM.

At what point do they start putting up help wanted signs all over campus?
Transfers are to be expected during a coaching transition, but damn…

I’d bet that we are about average in terms of players leaving with a new coach.

You're probably right,
I admit I didn’t pay as much attention to the roster attrition during Zook’s (or Meyer’s) first year.

It’s just seems weird because half of them are in the middle of the season. Which is kind of different.

Apparently
this brings our number of players on scholarship to 72 (out of a possible 85). 72! Muschamp’s number one priority needs to be getting the numbers back to a competitive level. The Gators just can’t compete with this lack of depth. It’s playing with the deck stacked against you, especially in a conference known for most of its other members’ penchant for oversigning.
hey what do u think of the Ronald Powell transfer rumors?
now, obviously they are rumors, so Ill believe it when i see it but i was wondering you guys’ take on it. Hypothetically, if he were to leave, what would be the reasoning? I mean talk about a big time recruit. Just curious as to why we would even here reports of it.
Not really paying that much attention to them.

I dont buy it. Depending what happens next year he will probably be off to the NFL anyways. I doubt he would want to transfer and sit out a year. Plus, the only rumor I saw was on one website, then they backed off it right after. No quality sources, nothing. I think most everyone around these parts are taking the “yeah okay uh huh believe it when i see it”.

I’ve never even seen it other than at TN and I think SwampGas forums. Why I was at SwampGas is beyond me. I think it was linked here for something.

by the way... going back to our talk about refs, especially ACC refs...
Did you see the call on Greg Reid for pointing at the football on a punt return is considered a fair catch? Was that the dumbest thing you have heard a ref say when trying to rationalize there bonehead call on tv? “By rule, the receiver pointed at the ball which is considered a fair catch.” Really? The rule states you have to raise your hand above your head and wave it side to side. I mean thats basically the same thing lol
Haha, yeah I saw that play and read the discussion at TN about it. I also saw on Tallahassee.com Fisher’s reaction. Good stuff. Just continues the ridiculousness that is ACC officiating. Over the last 10 years at least.

Try playing 8 games a year with them, or however many there are.
It seems as if officiating this year as a whole has had a bad year. IMO (See Auburn UF) lol oh and how do u not know if the ball goes through the uprights when your standing underneath the pole!
Haha, very true. It must be brutal. But yeah, officiating does seem to be sub-par thus far this year. That Syracuse extra point (or field goal) miss call was hilariously bad.

I mean its one thing if its a judgment call, but something like a missed field goal,
or pointing at a football? or pushing the football forward when measuring? I mean thats like worse than a church league flag football referee.
Yep. Judgment calls happen, but those three things, pathetic.

WE PLAYED ONE GAME WITH THEM.
IT WAS THE SWINDLE IN THE SWAMP.
It was awful. I feel sorry for you dealing with them on a more regular basis.

Well, technically it was more than one game with them. All (at least a bunch of them) the games at The Swamp before that were with them as well, and then of course bowl games.
Jack Childress. Pathetic.

Ya i mean why would he want to anyways...
He is on a young and talented D-Line and plays every snap. Plus he gets tons of recognition being at UF. I agree with you he prob won’t be there 4 years, but I thought it was random for him to leave unless he is jumping on that large bandwagon of UF players leaving Gainesville.
First year head coach that has had no previous affiliation with the players, it always happens. It of course being players leaving.

But is that because of loyalty to the coach that recruited them?
or not buying into his system, or players going on strike against the coach lol
Could be a combination. Fisher had the advantage of knowing and recruiting some (if not all) of the players on the roster before becoming head coach.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with Will himself. I just think were going in an entirely different direction(Alabama strong smash mouth approach). I doubt Nick Saban runs a reliable team with undersized RB’s, WR’s, and TE’s.

I agree,
thats been the concern, well not really for me, that it doesn’t match the type of offense it seems like you are heading towards. Rainey and Demps and Debose are great athletes with no identity in this offense. Plus with no smash mouth RB or TE its very tough to play in the SEC against DLines like Bama and LSU. Its nice to have a thunder and lightning approach swapping speed and power. Unless of course your mark ingram or trent richardson and you have both
Geeeeez!!!
I really thought Christian was the answer for the lackluster Jordan Reed.
This whole “hey, everyone…let’s transfer!” thing is getting sketchy, fast.

by the way...
how do the receiving corps and tight ends look for next year? or is it to far away to tell?
TE’s … Depends on Leonard’s development. Too soon to tell.
WR’s … A trash bin.

haha thats what i thought.
I know what its like, we haven’t had a good receiving corps or good tight end in a while. But that has changed this year minus the tight end part. But Nick O’Leary should be good. And this years recruiting class, minus Dorial Green or whatever his name is, doesn’t seem to have big time physical playmakers at wideout. A lot of them are in the 6 to 6’1" range. Which it seems to me like that where you guys are lacking. But it also helps to have guys run somewhat good routes and oh ya you got to catch it to.
That freshman WR y’all have appears to be good (Rashad Greene?). But yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

If you were vegas, and the game was this weekend...
what do u think the spread would be and in favor of who?
Since Brantley is back, it is at UF, and that is worth what, a field goal … I’d say it would be even, maybe UF by one or two.

But, I wouldn’t be surprised if FSU was still favored by a couple. What about you?
Editor at Alligator Army - The Florida Gators Blog
The Florida Gators - The most despised team in all of college football - Which is fantastic.
ya i would give it a field goal and being in the swamp, prob another 2 or 3.
However, I think on a neutral field FSU would have the edge because of defense, and a little bit more of a steady offense (probably 3 to 4 range IMO). But since its in the swamp, You could honestly give a one or two either way. I mean basically, its a 50 50 for me. I wouldn’t give a team a handicap personally lol I would be surprised though if there was a 4 to 5 point spread in favor of UF, especially after their brutal schedule, whether they win or lose those games. I don’t see the injury bug really leaving you guys. Or even just wear and tear stuff. I mean depth is the key late in the year, and if brantley or another key person goes down, it could be rough (as u guys have seen). It should be a good one though
Yeah, I agree with everything you said. That’s how I feel about it and why I kind of said even. It just feels like 50/50 from every standpoint. There isn’t really a clear edge in anything. Both teams look great one game, then everything falls apart the next. A group plays great, then crappy.
I agree.

The Florida Gators - The most despised team in all of college football - Which is fantastic.
Ya i think it will be made clear by game time...
I mean it will show when we play Miami (not that they are SC) and if we just win out in general. And it will show when u play Georgia and SC. And is it Vandy that u guys have too? i can’t remember. We really should win out, and shouldn’t really have any nail biters which will help for getting the reserves in. And lowering the risk of key injuries and keeping the 1st team fresh. I think the key will be depth, and i think FSU (as of right now) has a little bit more. Because ya’lls schedule is brutal lol
Yeah, Georgia, Vandy and Carolina. With Furman thrown in there, but that doesn’t really matter other than injury free.
But yeah, y’all have the depth advantage. No doubt about it. That Miami game should be a good one. Miami seems to be really playing well.

ya and I think the Vandy game could possibly show what the spread is for the FSU game.
I mean they are a sneaky team, And could easily be overlooked with Georgia SC and FSU around them. It should be interesting. I mean we did with WF
although at this point...
neither team should think they are guaranteed a victory lol
Haha, you’re freaking right.

Lol sorry...
It comes in cycles. How many guys do u think we wanted from the 2010 grad class? O’leary is fun to watch… Old school, no gloves, plays tough, and hustles. Not flashy. i enjoy watching those guys. And Joiner is like Tori Hunter in center field. Its impressive and the scary thing is he is only a sophomore. I was at first hesitant though because I didn’t think he had the size and consequently smash factor to his hits, but for a guy who might be 175 soaking wet he lays the wood sometimes.
Yep. The things your saying about O’leary is all the reasons why I wanted him. He would fit in really well to our new offense. Not to mention our TE is a “QB” that is basically not a threat to anyone.

No, he is a "wannabe Tebow"
I laughed watching him last year try to run the famous Tebow run right up the middle or do a jump pass. It was like his goal to become him lol And yes he would fit perfect in your offense. But really, there isn’t many offenses he wouldn’t fit in. I mean he is going to be a good rout runner, great hands, and works hard.
Joyner gained a ton of weight.
Above 200 now.
wow didn't know that lol
actually, i might have idk. even last year he made some big hits and he wasn’t that big
Colin Thompson yes, but he isn’t signed, sealed and delivered yet.
