Florida Vs. South Carolina Game Thread: Gators Look To Knock Off Gamecocks On the Road

Florida Gators at South Carolina Gamecocks, Nov 12, 2011 12:00 PM EST

Photo

All of your broadcast information is after the jump; your thoughts in the comments. I will be tweeting and writing about the game and recapping it afterward, but may not see every Game Thread comment.

Star-divide

Kickoff Time

12:00 p.m. Eastern

TV, Radio and Streaming Information

The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS. You can also watch it streaming online through CBS' site. The radio broadcast will also be available on the Gator Radio Network or on Sirius 220 and XM 203.

What to Watch For

Florida must stop Melvin Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney and keep John Brantley upright to have any short of pulling an upset in Columbia. With Chaz Green reportedly back on the offensive line, will the Gators be able to do that?

Game Thread Guidelines

Try to remember that, despite how emotional watching a Gators game can be, there's no reason to be abusive. Rant, curse, or exult if you must, but keep the personal attacks to a minimum.

Furthermore, and I will stress this until I am blue in the face or until FlaGators admits that I'm right, comments with both a subject line and text are much easier to read when scrolling through a thread. Try to keep that in mind.

I'm in the school of thought that thinks

you should always title your message. Them’s the rules on EDSBS.

That makes no sense. All it is, is a continuation of a sentence.

I’ve been posting at SB Nation and this network since July of 2007, back when there was half the sites (if that) that there is now. The laws of the land back then, were no subject lines because they were pointless.

The only thing now, that they are good for, is a picture or gif. Because you can minimize it. Other than that … it is just a waste.

Wasn't an attack on you

I just saw that in the main article. If you don’t post a Title on a photo on EDSBS, people get angry.

by ParadigmShift35 on Nov 12, 2011 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

Haha. We’re probably going to have to settle this via a wager, or a bet on something.

Like if I win, we ban the use of subject lines on here, and if you win, I’ll use them. Though I’m not the only one here who doesn’t use them.

I know. I meant to say “They” not “That” so that’s my bad.

But I’ve posted at EDSBS like 30 times or so, and never gotten a negative response about no subject line.

Part of the reason why I don’t is in July of 2007, I joined Let’s Go Tribe (the Indians blog on here) and they are VERY … VERY against subject lines.

Because the defense knows it is going to be a run then. If Brantley is in, even if it is in a run formation, the defense has to respect the pass to an extent.

Great defense.

Were flowing to the ball, containing the QB, not letting them get any yards on the ground, sacking the Quarterback, not missing stupid arm tackles, our linebackers are playing with extreme hatred, just perfect defense by the gators so far.

Oh. Wait. It’s not 2008, we suck now, duh my bad guys my bad.

by gatorempire127 on Nov 12, 2011 1:49 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This is the least fun team I can ever remember. At least Zook teams always kept it interesting. A close second is last years team. Also, is this staff familiar with the concept of spying the QB? Would make sense to me…

by GatorJustin on Nov 12, 2011 1:51 PM EST via mobile reply actions

2009 was the least fun I've ever had as a Gator.

13-1 or not, that was a miserable year. The Addazio experiment was in full force, the pressure was unbelievable, Meyer was already checking out, the Tebow concussion, and that miserable night in Atlanta. Just awful.

This year is giving it a run for its money, though.

His extreme stupidity that resulted in UT kicking a game winning field plus getting spit on numerous times, getting a drink pored on me, getting shoved over a trash can, driving back from UT to UF at 2 in the morning and arguing with my GF the whole way made for a terrible 24 hours, and baker was a major part of that.

Rainey was obviously exhausted by that busted play.

Not only do they keep him in, but they call a screen for him the next play.

Weis has concept of RB rotation. He honestly believes the short stacks we have at RB are capable are carrying the rock 30 times every game.

Our OL is trash. That Demps and Rainey got any yards today had nothing to do with our OL. They manufactured gains out of plays that should have been stopped behind the line all day long. How are we THIS bad on the OL? We had the best line in the country in ‘08. Then the divemaster took over as OC and we have been continuing a downward spiral ever since. I don’t get it.

On a side note, we’ve lost 11 guys to transfer or medical issues since the spring, plus Jeremy Brown to injury all season. Our depth is terrible. We need to be hauling in a recruiting class of 30+ this year just to get a decent number on the roster, but that’s unlikely. We’re playing like we’re under probation. USC has more guys on scholarship than us.

by Andrew Nordine on Nov 12, 2011 5:26 PM EST reply actions

USC hasn't had any scholarship restrictions take effect yet.

They’ve been hauling in full classes still. Also, didn’t a rule just pass that we can’t sign more than like 27 in a class? We need all 27, and we need them all to pan out. Immediately.

In all kinds of weather we'll all stick together

by doker on Nov 12, 2011 6:33 PM EST up reply actions

You can count early enrollees toward the previous class, so we could have up to 37 in our class if 10 enrolled early I think.

by Andrew Nordine on Nov 12, 2011 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

Isn't it greyshirts that count toward the previous class?

I’m not totally up on the recruiting rules. It hasn’t seemed like that important a thing in a few years.

In all kinds of weather we'll all stick together

by doker on Nov 12, 2011 6:36 PM EST up reply actions

I’m pretty sure it’s early enrollees.

by Andrew Nordine on Nov 12, 2011 6:42 PM EST up reply actions

Deprh

Line is one thing. The other is receiver. How could Dubose, Thompson and Hammond all be that bad? Imagine if we had one go to receiver and one power back. To me that would make all the difference. We would be 2 loss instead of five.

by htrcooler on Nov 12, 2011 5:43 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I think a part of it, is bad route-running, and then some of it is decisions on Brantley. He’s the check-down king.

by FlaGators on Nov 12, 2011 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

I think it's sort of a catch-22.

The line won’t allow receivers the time to get open on some routes, and the receivers don’t get open when the line gives them time on others.

by Andy Hutchins on Nov 12, 2011 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

We will get better

I like the way D is playing considering they never get to rest. Offense can only get better — can’t get worse – with time to learn new system. Don’t think we’re that far away from being solid. If we lose to Furman tho forget it, we suck.

by htrcooler on Nov 12, 2011 5:58 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Not To far away from being solid sounds like 2 miles. We are atleast 50 miles from being okay and 250 miles from being respectable. We are lower then Miami and USF for fucks sake, and we aren’t far off from FIU.

Coach Muschamp: Laying the Boom down on your a.....

by Gators1 on Nov 12, 2011 6:49 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

We won’t lose to Furman. We have a long way to go on offense, but our defense is keeping us in games. We’ve lost two close ones and won one close one since Brantley came back. We need some major help on the OL and at WR, but we could see some significant improvement in the future.

by Andrew Nordine on Nov 12, 2011 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe ur right

I just don’t want to believe we r as bad as we look. Next year we’ll know for sure. Still I think it’s impossible not improve on offense since every part of our O except Demps and Rainy is crap. Just a little better and we beat UGA, Auburn and SC.

by htrcooler on Nov 12, 2011 7:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

We lose Howard and Hunter on the DL, but that is it off the D. Our D will be experienced and mature.

Our O needs WRs, RBs, a QB to take the lead, and the OL to come together. But a fresh start may be good. It really all depends on what our OL can do. We need to coach up the guys we have and add some depth. We have 2 or 3 OTs committed, but could use about 5-6. We really need a LOT in recruiting. We need to get about 10 early enrollees and a class of about 35.

I just wonder if they have their priorities straight. At some point, you get used to losing and it becomes normal. Ho hum, oh well, let’s go play some video games and be lazy. It’s guys like Quinton Dunbar. He tweeted about playing video games as soon as he got back to Gainesville tonight. I’d be much more comfortable with him saying, “Man, I couldn’t run a route to save my life today. Maybe I should put down the video games and study the playbook or go see if one of the QBs will throw me some balls.”

Hmmm, I haven’t seen that tweet yet. I figured you were referring to something on like a Tuesday or Wednesday. Yeah, that’s pretty weak, I agree.

Yeah not saying they gotta do football 24/7. Just concerns me when they can’t wait to get done with the real game so they can go play the fake ones. I understand if you’re riding the pine, but Dunbar was supposed to have a break out season and has done NOTHING. I’d love to see some extra sense of dedication. This team has no leadership or heart.

Yeah, Dunbar exploded in the spring, but now, nothing. I agree.

Leadership, especially on offense, falls to Brantley, Demps and Rainey.

None of those guys seem to be taking leadership. Brantley curls up in the fetal position at the first sign of pressure. Demps and Rainey played well, minus Demps’ fumble. But I don’t see anyone in the huddle picking guys up after a bad play, or after another loss.

I’d much rather hear about Dunbar frustrated about a loss and taking time to study film and improve. Maybe gathering the receivers together. Or even, gasp, Deonte doing something!

Agreed.

Though I will say, that Brantley’s ankle might have something to do with his “just fall down” style as of late.

Yeah, it does. But on the last play of the game, throw the dang ball! He just gave up on the play. The pressure wasn’t there yet. He’s a fifth year senior. He knows the one thing he can’t afford is a sack there. Man up and take one for the team. Either throw it away or chuck it downfield.

I totally agree. Just throw the damn ball. Anywhere, it doesn’t matter. Just chuck it down the field.

Precisely.

The one thing you absolutely can’t do in that case is take a sack, and Brantley knows this. That’s just a mental error that he should never make. That shows a lack of leadership and selfishness. In that moment, JB’s priority was to protect his body and let his team lose. That’s not what a winner and a leader does.

Yeah, it was without question, the worst thing to do and didn’t show any of what you said, I agree.

Under at kickoff, but i think it will fill out as the game gets started. People are late to their seats. It happens.

Like homecomming. Which was still embarrassing.
