Bury the dead. Zook canned at Illinois
After and 0-6 finish (sound familiar) the Zooker has been canned at Illinois . The Zooker did manage to go 34-51 while leading the Illini to a Rose Bowl appearance 4 years ago. After starting the season 6-0 Zook sealed his fate by going 0-6 the rest of the way when it counted.
Please be kind and use good grammar.

As glad as I was when we fired Zook
he never had a season (while at UF) as bad as this current one.

He also played in a much tougher SEC east
in a time where Tennessee, UGA, and FSU were very very good teams

They weren't the best team in the nation either year.
But okay.

I think most would agree though I'll never admit it to a Cane fan that they were the best team in 2002
I didn’t say they were the best team both years just that they were probably the top program in the early 2000s followed by USC in the mids, then Florida in the later part of the decade.

As a counter point
He also never lost fewer than five games in a season. And he got three of them to build the program ‘his way’. And he was left a top notch team without many holes that was in the national title hunt the previous year.
I never wished him ill will, and I don’t think he’s a bad person, or even necessarily a bad coach, just a bad fit for Florida. I was actually hoping he’d turn it around in Illinois, because that’s about a good a fit for him as anywhere… a school whose primary problem historically has been recruiting. Well, he fixed that part… hopefully he lands on his feet somewhere where he’s a good fit.

Actually I remember most people complaining that Spurrier left the cupboard bare for Zook
that he got lazy in recruiting.
I’m not sure I agree, but I also don’t agree that the cupboard is bare for Muschamp other then at QB.

Um.
Are you suggesting we are well stocked at offensive line?

I mean...
Don’t get me wrong, We’re pretty well stocked everywhere BUT O Line and QB… but those are also the same problems we had the year before, but worse since some of the OLine graduated…
When your QB is running for his life because the O Line can’t passblock past the first quarter, and the running backs are repeatedly running into a brick wall, and both of these because we have zero depth and an undersized line, it’s hard to lay the blame on a first year head coach, don’t you think?

I'm not going to say our Oline has played well
but can we not run because they can’t block or can we not run because our QB can’t throw so everyone loads the box

Let's take a look
Xavier Nixon – 5 star. #1 OT recuit in 2009
Matt Patchan – 5 star
Dan Wenger – transfer
Halapio – 3 star
Harrison – 4 star
Guys might have not panned out, but talent wise he left us fine.

and I am saying he left us well stocked enough to finish better than 6-6

Okay.
Great. Who is behind them?
They’re spread option recruits. You NEED DEPTH WITH THEM. So. Who is behind them?
Individually, yeah, they’re all great. But they’re getting gassed. They’re fast, not big. Weis needs them the other way around. As a unit, we just don’t have the bodies.

It hasn't been good, but it's not like Meyer wasn't bringing in top o-line recruits

I’m one of those who thought that Spurrier had kind of gotten “chill” when it came to recruiting.
FSU back-2-back state champs!! 52-14
It wasn't seen as crazy talk back in 2002
Eerily similar to what is being said about Meyer leaving the cupboard bare now

I think Urbans last official class was pretty damn good.
Besides the huge 5 stars players, most of them were meant specifically for his team.
I guess you cant be mad at Meyer for that, but you cant deny that Weiss has not had the right players for a West Coast offense…And Meyer kind of put all his chips in one basket(Brantley) and that is by far, his biggest recruiting flub.
Without looking, some of the classes were not even the full 25 players… so that and transfers(Urban leaving) hasn’t helped either.
Spurrier left Zook with a team that went 10-2 the year before and included a Heisman runner up at QB. Not to mention Spurrier had at minimum a top 10 recruiting class from 95-2000.

If Les Miles has incredibly good luck
Zook had incredibly bad luck here.
A couple bounces here or calls made there and Zook might have hung around much longer. I’m glad it worked out the way it did, but Zook’s teams weren’t nearly as bad as we all thought back then. There was a large group of fans who wanted him gone before he ever coached his first game.
I wish the Zooker best of luck in the future

We do not mention coach [REDACTED] here. not by name at least. You can refer to him as Coach [REDACTED], He-who-must-not-be-named, or play dumb like he like never existed, this is your right as a Florida Gator Fan. Use it profusely and abundantly.
Tim Brando: Let's head to Gainesville with Coach Will Muschamp who's live on the scene with an exclusive. Coach Boom?
Boom: Gator Watch. The mood is tense; I have been on some serious, serious reports but nothing quite like this. I uh... Whiz... Weis is inside right now. I tried to set up an offense with him, but they said you can't do that he's a live walrus, he will literally rip your face off.
[to the walrus]
Coach Boom: Hey, you're making me look stupid. Get out here, Walrus Weis!
Tim Brando: Great story. Compelling, and rich.
Jump ship
At least he didn’t jump ship like Urban did when he knew that he wasn’t going to beat Bama or LSWho.
