Chomping At Bits: Expect Florida's Next Offensive Coordinator After The Gator Bowl

Chomping At Bits ideally runs twice daily during the week and once daily on weekends, and comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find. Got a link we should check out? Email us at AlligatorArmy@gmail.com, subject line CAB.

Will Muschamp will wait to hire offensive coordinator: Probably to hire the Colts' offensive coordinator after the NFL regular season is over, right? Also: Who is the Colts' offensive coordinator? (Pat Dooley, Gainesville Sun | HT: Gatorbuc15.)

Charlie Weis speaks: If you believe him, family really was an integral part of why he chose to leave Florida for Kansas. (Rachel George, Orlando Sentinel)

We show up in a weird place: Yes, that's "alligatorarmy.com" getting cited in an official Ohio State press release. I'm not sure how Ohio State got the impression that we're a recruiting site, though. (Ohio State Buckeyes | HT: @ourhonordefend/@marcushartman)

Overlooking Tim Tebow's magic? An interesting look at how Tebow may be exploiting an inefficiency in the NFL. (Jeffri Chadiha, ESPN | HT: SC-Gator)

Tebow's pastor cheapens his accomplishments: Tebow's pastor seems like a less cool guy than Tebow. (Dan Wetzel, Yahoo! Sports)

New Yorker still puzzling over Tebow: Which I love. (Reeves Wiedeman, The Sporting Scene/The New Yorker)

Tebow changes Broncos' plans: "Luck is the residue of design" is one of my favorite quotes. (Michael Lombardi, NFL Network | HT: @onlygators)

Want a Tebow jersey? Good luck. (@darrenrovell)

It's déjà vu all over again

The surest sign of an upcoming Gator blowout win when Tebow was here was when opposing defenders chirped about taking Tebow out or down or whatever prior to the game. That meant that the defense was going to be so preoccupied on him that they would let other guys on the team go free.

Tebow’s big run against the Jets, along with the scorn and derision the rest of the league heaps on him six days a week, appears to be resulting in the same thing happening in the NFL. For a lot of the game, defenses just defend the Broncos and have success. Then, late in the game, they seem to be more interested in defending Tebow. Or at least preventing Tebow’s running from being the thing that wins Denver the game. It opens up holes for the running backs and results in wide open receivers.

In trying so hard to keep Tebow from winning the game, they end up letting the Broncos win the game. Second verse, same as the first.

Considering that family was the reason why Weis chose Florida (son, daughter, horses) … yeah, not buying it this time Weis.

Good luck in Kansas.

It's really family + money.

The money makes it way more than a lateral move; the plane and the situation in Ocala made it comfortable for Weis to leave.

by Andy Hutchins on Dec 13, 2011 11:01 AM EST up reply actions

I fully believe him when he said his family agreed it was too good to pass up. I don’t think Weiss was in the same boat as Meyer when he came to UF for his family. It wasn’t just about spending time with them, there was a lot more to it. Now Weiss can still have the great situation for his family plus hes a HC and making a ton of money.

What happened in Ocala?

I thought that was one of the reasons he came to Florida. Ocala because of the horse back riding for his wife and daughter.

Tim Brando: Let's head to Gainesville with Coach Will Muschamp who's live on the scene with an exclusive. Coach Boom?
Boom: Gator Watch. The mood is tense; I have been on some serious, serious reports but nothing quite like this. I uh... Whiz... Weis is inside right now. I tried to set up an offense with him, but they said you can't do that he's a live walrus, he will literally rip your face off.
[to the walrus]
Coach Boom: Hey, you're making me look stupid. Get out here, Walrus Weis!
Tim Brando: Great story. Compelling, and rich.

Stephen A. Smith

Is such an ignorant jackass. It’s unbelievable how Anti-White he is. He is so against White people having success in the only 2 sports leagues he cares about (Duh Natinul Fuhball League and Duh Association). Now I know why I hate the state of Connecticut, the city of Bristol and anything with the initials ESPN. How Steven A. Smith has a job is beyond me.

by Gators1 on Dec 13, 2011 2:56 PM EST reply actions

He’s kind of like the male version of Jemele Hill. Everything has to do with race. Because they think it is the only thing that matters.

by FlaGators on Dec 13, 2011 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed 100%. That’s why I haven’t watched Cold Pizza/First Take/1st and 10 w/e the hell they call it now over a year. I like Skip and I liked Woody when he was on there…but now, they HAVE to have a black person on there, and that black person always has to bring up race. It’s a joke….much like ESPN as a whole. I hate Mike and Mike and Colin Cowherd, too. They are unbelievable. Then you got that moron Hoge and that idiot Chris Carter. Okay, I’m calming down now.

MATT freakin ELAM!

by Gators1 on Dec 13, 2011 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

Haha. Yeah, out of all you listed, I only listen to Colin. But it’s like 3-4 times a year for about an hour total. It’s usually just a random time when I’m in the car and he is talking about something interesting. Like last year for example, when he was slamming the Miami Heat … it was awesome.

But yeah, I agree with your larger point.

by FlaGators on Dec 13, 2011 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

All of their shows are getting unwatchable. In the morning I end up sticking with Dan Patrick because at least he talks about sports stories, rather than arguing about race.

by FColosi on Dec 13, 2011 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

It's like in preseason this past year...

….when Cam Newton was completing 40% of his passes and Tebow was going 7-9 in his limited appearances w/ 2nd teamers, and all the usual espn suspects were claiming how great Cam was and how shitty Tebow was. Numbers never lie, right? Tebow is 7-1. Cam is 2-11

so that point is moot.

I just resign myself to

Dan Hicken and Jeff Proser on the local 1010 XL radio in J-ville … and then I go to the internet. The only reason I listen to them is pure entertainment, although Proser would be good by himself, Dan just adds that off the wall craziness to make it entertainment. Jeff just tells me that I’m right mostly …
