How the Gators are measuring up at the NFL Combine - Updated
As surely everyone knows by now, the University of Florida had seven former players attend the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this past week/weekend.
But in case you didn't notice (probably due to the basketball, baseball and softball teams being on a hot-streak, and that is totally understandable) those seven players were.....
Ahmad Black (SS)
Marcus Gilbert (OL)
Chas Henry (P)
Will Hill (FS)
Maurice Hurt (OL)
Carl Johnson (OL)
Mike Pouncey (OL)
To find out how each player measured up and preformed at the NFL Combine continue reading after the jump. Also to note that this article will be updated as other players get their turn to participate.
It is worth noting right away that none of the former Gators were considered a "top performer" but it isn't the end of the world either. Also, all numbers and stats are compiled at NFLsoup.com which you can find here.
The results after Day 1 of workouts (OL, K/P and TE).....
Carl Johnson (OL) came in as the heaviest offensive lineman with a weight of 361 pounds. His height was measured at 6'5" and questions of whether or not he can withstand the "bull rush" still apply. His arm length was measured at 36 1/2" along with his hand size being measured at 10 1/4." If you have been told that stuff doesn't matter to NFL Scouts and GM's you are being mislead, as it matters quite a bit. Johnson completed the 40 yard dash in 5.44 seconds, finished with a vertical leap of 25.5" and completed a 8' even broad jump.
Mike Pouncey (OL) came in at 6'5" with a weight of 303 pounds. His arm length is a reported 32 1/4" and his hand size is being measured at 9 3/4." The questions about his ability to play center still linger, but the good news is that the Steelers are said to have an eye on him with the 31st pick, though he is unlikely to last that long. Pouncey completed the 40 yard dash in 5.12 seconds, had a 25" vertical jump, completed the three cone drill in 7.66 seconds an accomplished a 8'0" broad jump. The consensus is that he did nothing to hurt his draft status.
Marcus Gilbert (OL) registered a height of 6'6" and weighed in at 330 pounds. His arm length is 33 1/2" and his hand size came in at 9 3/4" as well. Gilbert only attempted two drills and completed a 5.36 second 40 yard dash and finished off a respectable 30 reps on the bench press. He had nowhere to go but up when talking about draft status and I'm sure scouts will take another look at him during the Gator pro-day as expected.
Maurice Hurt (OL) had a height of 6'3" and a weight of 318 pounds. His arm length is 34 1/8" and his hand size registered at 9" even. He did not workout or participate in any drills because of a MCL sprain, but he should be ready to go by the pro-day.
Chas Henry (P) registered a height of 6'3" and a weight of 215 pounds. His arm length was 33" and his hand size came in at 9 1/4." No word yet on anything else.
Ahmad Black (SS) came in at 5'10" weighing 184 pounds. His arm length is 31" and his hand size is 9 7/8." He didn't have a fast 40 yard dash time, but then again, some players play fast once the pads come on. But that is no excuse and he is going to have to run better at the pro-day. 4.74 seconds just isn't going to cut it. He also did 18 reps on the bench press.
Will Hill (FS) came in at 6'1" weight 201 pounds. His arm length is 32" and his hand size is 9 1/2." He ran slightly faster than Black by running the 40 yard dash in 4.65 seconds. He decided to do the broad jump instead of the bench press and had a 10'3" jump.
As for the Wonderlic scores and all of the other stuff, give it a little bit more time and we'll start to see some scores being released. Like former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and his score of a 48. That is impressive, and I don't care who you are.
Please be kind and use good grammar.

Chas Henry
Do punters go through different testing? I can’t imagine a great 40 time, vertical jump or high number of benching reps would help a punter much….
I haven’t seen a thing in regards to that stuff. I’m sure if asked, he would run the 40 just for the heck of it. But as for all that stuff…I haven’t seen a thing.
The Once and Future King
they probably
measure his foot length and his metatarsel spread and other important things like that.
yea they do
its the first day of the combine. but the coaches dont care how fast a a kicker or punter runs and most dont do any of the stuff anyways
