It is starting to become routine. The Gators erupt into the weekend each Friday and leave a heaping pile of beaten NCAA opponents in their path across multiple sports.
Yesterday, the tennis teams started things off with a systematic demolition of LSU in the SEC opener for both the #11 mens team crushed LSU 6-1. Not to be outdone, the #1 ranked womens team blanked the Tigers 6-0.
The #2 ranked softball team continued their march of destruction while hosting the Lipton Invitational. The Gators beat Valparaiso 13-4, and then shutout Syracuse 2-0 to improve to 16-0. That is just another year in Coach Tim Sullivan's world, who has created quite the softball empire at UF. Score another point for Jeremy Foley's hall of fame AD career. The softball team continues in action today against North Dakota State and Pacific.
The top ranked baseball team recovered from its lone loss this week to most hated rival FSU by downing second most hated rival Miami 8-3 Friday. Sophomore Brian Johnson tossed 5 scoreless innings for the Gators, who are stacked with pitchers. The Gators continue their 3 game series against the Canes today at 3pm.
The #1 ranked gymnastics team recovered from its first loss last weekend at Arkansas, by notching a huge road win at #5 Utah, a long time nemesis of the Gators. Read all about it here. The Gators won 197-196.750 behind strong performances by freshman Alaina Johnson, and the super sophomore duo of Ashanee Dickerson and Marissa King. The Gators next head to Birmingham for the SEC Championships March 19th.
Just to make sure it wasn't a perfect day, the womens hoops team fell to Tennessee 92-75 in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. I guess nothing is perfect, huh? Our #14 mens hoops team takes the court tonight against Vandy. I never like playing in Nashville on that wacky court, but it would be nice to finish the regular season with a win and an outright championship.
Look up above to see just how healthy UF's sports program is. #11, #1, #2, #1, #1, #14.....that doesn't even include our #14 lacrosee team, #3 ranked golf team, swim teams (#4 & #7), and our top ranked defending national champion track & field squad. These are NATIONAL rankings folks. That is pretty ridiculous and shows why MR. Foley is the best in the business.
