Colin Thompson To Decide Thursday: Will He Choose Florida?
Will Muschamp has already gotten off to a very good start this year on the recruiting trail, and he could continue that Thursday, when TE Colin Thompson makes his decision on where he will be playing football in college.
Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood four-star tight end Colin Thompson confirmed that he will announce his college decision on Thursday, May 5, during a 1:30 (EST) press conference at his school.
At this point, things look very good for Florida with Thompson, who currently claims over 20 offers from heavyweights like Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. This battle looks like it will come down to Florida, and Wisconsin.
When asked about his finalists though, Thompson is hesitant to name any leaders.
"When I commit, it will be all about the one team I commit to and not the teams I didn’t pick," Thompson said. "I have a lot of great offers and built a lot of great relationships with coaches that recruited me, but I think I found the right place for me and I’m comfortable with my decision."
Thompson who stands at 6-foot-4, 255-pounds, looks like the perfect TE for Charlie Weis. He prides himself on his ability to block, but is also very good in the passing game. Thompson is currently listed as the 3rd best TE in the nation on Scout.com, and 4th best on 24/7 sports. A TE like Thompson, would be a departure from the Aaron Hernandez type TEs, that we've seen Florida go after recently. Thompson is not a WR, who can block a little, he's a big bodied guy, who would certainly help in the running game.
I feel good about this one, but we'll know for sure on Thursday. Let's hope that Colin Thompson makes commitment number 10 for Coach Muschamp.

Good player.
'11: Minimum Goal: 9-3 Regular Season. Given FSU's non-con slate, don't care who the 9 are.
'10: 7th in offense, 41st in defense. Division Champions. 10-4. (6-3)
'09: 8th in offense, 88th in defense. 7-6 (4-4)

Could be a huge addition.
I won’t say must get, but this is about as close to that as you can get. Would be a more than welcome commitment.

I don’t see him in Orange and Blue.

Agreed.
That’s why I won’t go “must get” just yet. But if one is completely out of the running, then the other becomes a necessity.

Y’all already have four tight ends, none of whom are older than sophomore. Is there really a huge need for a tight end?

Yup.
Reed…converted QB. Leonard…should be good, but only just in the program. McFarland…questionable ability. Christian…could be TE, could be LB.
A TE that could also line up with the OL and block would be huge. Haven’t had one of those in quite some time.

All unproven, also yes.

oh ok
I think the class will be bigger than that. Probably add a couple to the DE/LB spots, and a couple to the RB/WR/TE spot. You figure we already have 2 RBs in the fold, 1 WR, and hopefully Thurs. 1 TE. I don’t see them only signing 1-2 more player at those spots, especially with the departure of Dunkley, and McRoy. I think 5 is about right on OL, and I could see adding another interior lineman to the defense as well.
Cue oversigning talk, given that UF only has 17 spots open. What you proposed would be oversigning by 8.
Just trying to keep it within UF"s stated practices, you know.

Not really necessary to cue anything.
I’m simply guessing at the number, and I don’t think it’s a number that you would disagree with. Of course, it brings us back full circle, where I once again ask why you feel the need to speculatively discuss a tactic that Florida has never used in the past, and has stated it won’t use in the future. If you really wanna rile up a group about oversigning, I’m sure the Ole Miss, or Alabama boys would be more than happy to discuss it with you.
I’m actually less interested in my friendly jab at it than I am in wondering how Muschamp plans to build his roster.

I think your list is pretty close to what we'll see.
There are a decent number of good DBs this year, and a lot of them have an interest in Florida. Which is why the Bailey commitment kind of confuses me. I could see them ending up with maybe 4 DBs, if certain guys end up wanting to play at Florida.
I can see UF taking 3. 4 Is tough since they are returning 12!

wow. 12?
That is a lot. I just hope we have room for Maye, Bush, Howard etc should they want to come here.
I mean, do you have any reason to believe those guys listed cannot play?

for most of them
I have no reason at all to think they can’t play well. I like most of them quite a bit. That being said, I would rather see them come here, and us a chance of having a stud DB, than see them go to Miami, or FSU.
I like the Bailey commitment.
Tall CB with blazing speed. Could negate deep threats.
