Chomping At Bits: Florida Gators Officially Hire Strength And Conditioning Coach
Chomping At Bits comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find. Got a link we should check out? Email us at AlligatorArmy@gmail.com, subject line CAB.
Jeff Dillman hired as strength and conditioning coach: The Gators lured him away from IMG Academies, and previously, he was the strength and conditioning coach for the Appalachian State Mountaineers. He's also worked at LSU in the past as well. (The Bull Gator)
Can Gator fans can now "quit" Urban: Not so sure I agree with it, but it is an interesting piece. (David Whitley, AOL Fanhouse)
Muschamp has problems to address: Yes, I agree that the schedule is easier (at least on paper) in 2012, than it was this past year, but does that mean more wins? Well, figuring out who the quarterback is going to be, would be a great start. (David Jones, Florida Today)
Sharrif Floyd makes an impact: Finally! We all know he can play, and he is arguably Florida's most talented player on the defensive line, but the move from end to tackle might just have to be permanent. Of course, getting your first career sacks on back-to-back plays, will always help matters. (Rachel George, Swamp Things/Orlando Sentinel)
Ohio State still 0-for-whatever against the SEC in bowl games: I'm well aware that Ohio State beat Arkansas last year in the Sugar Bowl last year, but what do the record books say? At the end of the day, that's all that matters. It's kind of like Floyd Landis' Tour de France victory. We all saw it, but is does it still count? It's the same thing. H/T to AMFKNole for the Landis reference. (Mike Bianchi, Open Mike/Orlando Sentinel)
Gators shoot lights out against UAB: Just another article discussing the performance of Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker. (Adam Silverstein, Only Gators)
Spurrier's greatest season ever?: Without question, Spurrier had a heck of a season. He did a phenomenal job of "coaching them up" but his best season ever? Not even close. (John Pennington, MrSEC)

I'd say OSU is more similar to Floyd Landis in the 2006 Tour de France
We all saw him win it. But now, as far as the record books are concerned, it didn’t happen that way.

Fantastic. Post is edited to reflect the awesomeness of this comment. With of course proper citing.

I would hate to think a majority of the school’s massive and passionate fan base believe their program should be given credit for a postseason victory that was won because the coach lied to keep his cheating players eligible
Exactly.
Even when we saw OSU win, most of us knew it wasnt right. 5 game suspension! but it doesnt start until next season. Karma people.

Yeah, that whole aspect of it was baloney from the beginning

Yeah I believe 96’ was his best season ever.

Just for a couple reasons…..
Listen to them, the children of the night. What sweet music they make.

Yeah … 1995, 1996 and 2001 come to mind. Also, what about his ACC title team at Duke. That’s up there as well. Same as his probation teams at UF in the early 90’s.

Paul Myerberg had a good take on Spurrier's season
referenced a lot of the same stuff you guys are talking about in the above comments

Also, who won the BCS Championship from the 2004 season?
That’s really the best comparison to Ohio State and last year’s Sugar Bowl.

thats true
But USC was just one RB compared to OSUs QB and several others. Although, who knows if USC had many more players on the pay roll.

0-10 I believe.
Zero wins and Ten Losses to SEC teams. So in Ten games throughout the great history of THE Ohio State football program…. They’ve never ever beaten an sec opponent. And if I’m not mistaken a couple if those were complete blow outs in the national championship game. And in one of those they were HIGHLY favored. Such a cruel world. :)

Excellent.

It still bugs me when people lump LSU's "blowout" win over Ohio State into the same category as our blowout win over Ohio State.
Just look at total yards:
UF – 370 vs OSU – 82
LSU – 326 vs OSU – 352
Yes, LSU got outgained in their 14-point “blowout,” while Florida more than quadrupled OSU’s yardage in our 27-point massacre.
Bill Connelly’s Classic Study Hall pieces about those two games tell it:
The “ESSSSS EEEEEE SEEEEE SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED” meme has been around as long as the SEC, I believe, but the modern (and most defensible) iteration of it began, really, in early-January 2007. That was when an SEC team — one that required a little bit of politicking just to get into the title game — took on an Ohio State team that had been considered, since the season’s first day, the nation’s preeminent team … and absolutely pantsed them. Ran circles around them. It was so bad that, the next season, when Ohio State played well for a while and ended up losing to LSU by a respectable margin (14 points on the scoreboard, four EqPts in the box score, and in LSU’s backyard, no less) … it was roundly viewed that they got dominated again … but really, a lot of that was just hungover perception from this game. (In my opinion, anyway.) Rarely in such a big game has one team seemingly had such a speed advantage over another.

That’s where that was. I remember seeing that written somewhere, but forgot where it was.

The guys at Saurian Sagacity had a post about that several years ago
here’s a link. I say if ’Bama can claim all their disputed national championships, we should get to claim ’84.

Yeah, we were crowned champions by a lot of people/publications. That’s why I dismiss a lot of the national champions throughout the college game.

I have to throw 1990 out there
Spurrier came in with a complete offensive overhaul – installing the fun n’ gun using offensive personnel who were recruited to run a smashmouth Emmitt left, Emmit right, Emmit up the middle offense. Typically it would take a couple years for that transition. But SOS’s ‘90 team lit it up from the first game and rolled up 387 points (over 35 PPG) while using a former 5th string QB to re-write the UF and SEC record books. The defense actually improved over the past year as well and the Gators finished 9-2 (6-1 in the SEC) and would have earned UF’s first SEC title had it not been for Galon Hall’s poor decisions.
