Florida's near-loss to Louisiana didn't damage the Gators' poll standing.
After nearly suffering a disastrous loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, Florida could have fallen in this week's college football rankings. Not so much: Florida is No. 7 in the Week 12 AP and USA TODAY polls.
The Gators are also near foes with familiar faces: Florida is immediately behind No. 5 Alabama and No. 6 Florida State in the USA TODAY Poll, and behind No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Ohio State in the AP Poll.
Florida's unlikely to move up again without a win over Florida State: Oregon's the only team ahead of the Gators that is likely to play a contentious game next weekend, and the Gators aren't going to be done any favors by a second loss.
But with a dominant win over a top-10 team on the road, Florida could re-establish its body of work as the finest in the country. One might think that being the only team in the country with two wins over teams ranked in the top 10 of both polls would be enough for that, but...
