Florida Football Recruiting: 2012 National Signing Day Open Thread
Florida's 2012 National Signing Day could be a truly rollicking ride, with Florida still in it for a number of five-star prospects and still in the race for the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, somehow. Use this post, which will be stuck to the top of Alligator Army all day, as your NSD open thread, and this schedule of commitments as your guide. (Times and broadcast information via CBS Sports' Eye on Recruiting, Rivals, and the Orlando Sentinel's Swamp Things.)
All times are Eastern, and we'll also be updating this post with both news of commitments and current commits sending along their National Letters of Intent. You can watch ESPN's NSD coverage via ESPN3.com.
- 9:15 a.m., ESPNU: Josh Harvey-Clemons, OLB, considering Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami
- 9:50 a.m. ESPNU: Tracy Howard, CB, considering Florida, Florida State, Miami
- 10 a.m., Brighthouse Sports Network: Dante Fowler, DT/DE, considering Florida, Florida State
- 11:00 a.m.: Leonard Williams, DE, considering Florida, USC
- Noon, ESPNU: Nelson Agholor, ATH/WR, considering Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, USC
- 2:00 p.m.: Avery Young, OT, considering Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Miami
- 4:00 p.m.: Kyle Murphy, OL, considering Florida, Oregon, Stanford, USC

No upsets as of this post
if you’ve seen the commit list then you’ve seen the signed list minus a few names who haven’t faxed in LOIs yet.

That’s alright. We had a similar thing in 2010. Let them do their thing. Apparently, don’t discount Fowler just yet…

http://www.alligatorarmy.com/2012/2/1/2762722/tracy-howard-miami-football-national-signing-day-2012
Editor at Alligator Army.
Miami is now higher ranked than Florida
in Academics, in the US News and World report rankings, mostly because a big part of the rankings are the school’s endowments…
Florida, being a public institution, had to publish its losses in on that front. Miami, being a private one, didn’t. So Florida’s losses hurt its rankings while Miami’s didn’t.
That minor bit aside, they are pretty close, academically. Before and after that change the difference is only a few spots. Ah well, better than him going to FSU.
His name was Nick Bloomfield.

Not the elite ones. They don’t call it the “State of Dade” or the “State of Miami” and refer to a figurative fence around it for nothing. It’s also not the biggest fraternity in football for nothing.
It’s tough. It’s not as tough as it was a few years ago (1999-2005-ish) but still, they don’t leave often. Plus, there are a lot of guys there. A lot. So yeah, a few will leave, but it’s usually not the cream of the crop.

Does anyone have an idea of who we’re looking at for 2013 or how many players per position we will likely target?
I'll probably have more on this a while from now, but...
RB: Greg Bryant, Kelvin Taylor, Christian Green, Tarean Folston, Derrick Henry, Micah Green
WR: Ahmad Fulwood, Stacy Coley, Alvin Bailey, Taj Williams, Reggie Davis
OL: Two big-time targets are Laremy Tunsil and Jake Raulerson
DT: Greg Gilmore, Montravius Adams
DE: Elijah Daniel, Joey Bosa
LB: Peter Kalambayi, Jaylon Smith, Daniel McMillian, E.J. Levenberry, James Hearns
CB: Kendall Fuller, Vernon Hargreaves, Nick Washington, Richard Benjamin, Will Likely

Kelvin Taylor, Adam Lane, Greg Bryant
at RB. Expect one of Taylor or Bryant. Florida will probably look to add another RB as well (3 minimum signees).
As for the other positions? probably thin at DE, unless multiple 2010s declare for the NFL. Expect a handful of DBs, a lot of O-linemen and WRs, and a highly rated ILB and probably at least 2 backups at that position.

Is there anybody else out there that we might sign
I know diggs, but what about others, we needed to have a bigger class with how thin we are pretty much everywhere. I know we missed on a bunch of big recruits but we still could use depth.

everybody let’s all put out some positive thoughts about Avery Young and hopefully we can at least close out today strong.

Hey guys
Exciting day for every football fanatic out there.
Just wondering how ya’ll are feeling about your class?
Great get on Fowler btw. I think our coaches were honestly shocked about that considering everything he had been telling us for like… 300+ days.
'Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football.' John Heisman
I think it's pretty solid.
The Tracy Howard thing really through me for a loop though. I honestly thought Nevin Shapiro was locked up… what’s up with miami>???

He would have gotten that here.
I think he would have been our top cover corner the second he stepped foot on campus

We needed a playmaker on offense but I think we needed to get bigger on both fronts which we did big time, so I will take to loss on the lbs and wrs for now. Next year we should load up on offensive talent

I was shocked to see it, personally. People were talking about it on here this morning, but I didn’t think it was actually going to happen. Wasn’t it just about 2 days ago that he said he was going to FSU no matter what? Crazy. We entered the day around 4th in the rankings and will end the day around 4th so for me it was just a…meh. Still, this is going to be a good class….but would’ve liked to have gotten a few of the guys we missed on.
Yeah, that guy really screwed FSU over.
It wouldn’t have been so bad if the coaches wouldn’t have backed off Leonard Williams to accomodate him.
Oh well though. Whatcha gonna do? Some people are just indecisive :)

So weird seeing Vanderbilt with a Top 25 class….even if it’s 25th. I keep thinking I need to call ESPN and tell them there is a massive error on their website every time I see it.
Like a month ago, when Vandy’s class was like No. 18, I’m pretty sure I had a stroke.

I'm telling you guys, if Vandy gets it together, watch out.
Nashville is a really nice city with a great downtown scene. Put that up with some hot women and a great education and Vandy has a lot to offer.

And does anyone know what it means for UGA that they had an Avery Young profile up now that he is with Auburn?
They probably had all their potential commits profiles prepped and ready to go so they could add them once they signed
It obviously was put up on accident

Yeah, I know. What I meant was, are there any consequences for them? I know it is small, but I sure would like to see that. It would make me feel a little better for missing on JHC.

'Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football.' John Heisman
Yeah but looks like Maryland is putting in a last ditch effort. That would be the close to home choice.
And Ohio State forgot to mention them. Although, Diggs said he is choosing a Pro-Style school so I would think we would get him if that’s the offense he wants to be in.
I don't say this often, because no offense, but I hate Florida...
But I really hope you guys win that battle.
I had the pleasure of seeing what some of the Auburn posters were like this recruiting season and all I can say is WOW. They suck.
I hope Bama rips the Barners a new one again this year. And next year, and the year after.

Take a few deep breaths here.
Right now Rival has us listed 3rd behind Alabama and Texas. Scout has us 5th with Ohio St and Michigan ahead of us. Meanwhile, we only have 23 in vs 25 each for Ohio St and Michigan, 27 for Bama, and 28 for Texas.

It’s funny because JHC isn’t the undecided I wanted most, but if we get him, it will make today amazing. Don’t care if it moves us up rankings at all. All that will matter is we walk away with what UGA wanted, thought they had, and saw slip away.
Who cares about the rankings? It will mean we added a great player that can help us win football games.
I hope it doesn’t happen though. It’s not fair to the kid

If he really wants to go to UGA
he can have a court declare him independent and he can sign for himself (I believe this was an issue a few years ago). I’d guess that his Gramps is going to cave in the next few days and he’ll be in Athens this summer.

Talk now (for the last few minutes) is FSU as a compromise. Started as a guess by people on Twitter about 15-minutes ago.
Editor at Alligator Army.
Is there any substance behind it or just speculation? Does his grandfather just not want him at UGA?
Heck of a compromise.
But honestly… it sounds like a transfer waiting to happen whether UF or FSU pull him.
You have to let a kid go with their heart. You can only do so much as a guardian. It’s your responsibility to guide and protect, not to dictate.
