Florida's late-season swoon may have cost the Gators. During Sunday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show on CBS, the Gators were named the No. 7 seed in the West Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, far lower than most of the projections for Florida this week.
The Gators will meet No. 10 Virginia in Omaha on Friday, and will have their hands full with a defensive-minded Cavaliers outfit, though the Wahoos' lack of size could bode well for Florida. If the Gators can get past Virginia, No. 2 Missouri, the winner of the Big 12 Tournament, looms, and the Tigers' high-octane jump-shooting offense could look like a mirror image of Billy Donovan's squad.
If the Gators can get to the Sweet Sixteen — and it will be tough — they could run into No. 3 Marquette or No. 6 Murray State. And the No. 1 seed in the region is a team Florida has some Tournament history with: No. 1 Michigan State.
