The fifth Friday Night Lights domino has fallen Gainesville High product Chris Thompson has committed to Florida, according to ESPN's Derek Tyson. Thomson had offers from Florida Atlantic, Marshall, UMass and Utah.
Rated a two-star receiver by Rivals and a three-star prospect by ESPN, Thompson impressed the Florida coaches when he camped at UF in mid-June. While he put on a nice performance then, he was still down on the board behind players such as Demarcus Robinson. He put together another impressive performance at Florida's Friday Night Lights camp, and the Gators offered him a scholarship two three days later. It's also not hard to imagine that Florida is getting in when it is easiest on Thompson, a local prospect the Gators have had ample time to evaluate, before his stock improves regionally or nationally.
Thompson's commitment gives Florida five verbals in as many days, an impressive job of recruiting as you're going to see. Thompson is also UF's 21st commitment in the Class of 2013, so it's looking more and more like the Gators could end up taking 25 players this cycle. Florida is most likely finished at receiver unless someone decommits.
