Florida vs. LSU: Opening line favors Tigers by 2.5 points

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Gators aren't expected to win this weekend against LSU, according to Vegas, but the line has been moving Florida's way all season.

Florida's October-opening showdown with LSU looked like a game the Tigers would be heavily favored in at the beginning of the season. But with the Gators rolling up a 4-0 record in September and rallying for wins against Texas A&M and Tennessee and the Tigers struggling to find consistency on offense, that's no longer the case: LSU is just a 2.5-point favorite for Saturday's game.

Florida has traditionally been one of the best teams in college football against the spread, and that's been true in 2012, with the Gators going 3-1 ATS and failing to cover only against Bowling Green in the season opener. LSU, on the other hand, is 2-3 ATS, covering only against Washington and Idaho and coming nowhere near covering against Auburn and Towson.

But a higher-ranked road team getting 2.5 points is a clear request for bettors to take LSU and hope for a field goal victory, which may mean that betting momentum is heading Florida's way. We'll keep track of the line as the week goes on.
