Ask anybody what made the Florida Gators teams of the late 90's and the championship teams of the 2000's great and everybody should have the same answer, "speed"
So why has Muschamp and his staff gone away from the formula that has always made the Gators one of the most exciting and dominating programs over the last 20 years? I really cant remember another Florida team that had less offensive weapons, and speed players than this Gators football team. Besides Solomon Patton, theirs really no threat on the Gators offense to find a seam and take it to the house. Where are the guys like Jeff Demps, Percy Harvin, Mike Gillislee, Chris Rainey, that could make one cut and take it to the house? Ill tell you where they are, there down the road at FSU.
Not only that, but while the Gators have shown some improvement this year at the receiver position, I don't think any other team in the SEC has recruited more poorly and failed to develop players at WR than the Gators the last 4 years. Then the most critical failure, is at QB. Florida has secured some of the best QB prospects in the nation out of high school and have shown a complete inability to develop and coach any one of them into any more than a "game manager". Now I know not every 5 star recruit pans out, but Florida has way to proud of a program and way to many resources to be failing this badly at developing somebody at the QB position. Every other team in the conference is leaps and bounds ahead of Florida right now in player development.
Even in a down year, Florida should not be unranked in the middle of the season and still fighting to become bowl eligible. What hurts even more than that is looking down the street at FSU, and watching them turn into a powerhouse team again, with a phenom freshman QB, playmakers on both sides of the ball, and not just getting top talent, but developing them into great players.
Florida should be able to recruit the top talent in the country, because they are in our own backyard, but as an offensive player why would I want to come play in the Gators offense, which is probably the least explosive, un exciting, predictable and anemic for 2 years now, when I could go play for a team that runs the spread and can air it out. Florida has to change the mentality on offense and get back to what works and has always worked at Florida, speed football, time to start recruiting speed again, opening up the offense, lets get Will Grier in next year, find some playmakers on offense, and get back to our roots. Speed kills.
Im not gonna say Muschamp needs to be fired if this year doesn't pan out Brent Pease on the other hand, its time to say Pease Out buddy. And if Muschamp cant bring in somebody to turn the offense around, he needs to go too, this team has a lack of discipline, and the players aren't perfroming, which falls squarely on him. turn this ship around or turn in your resignation, because Florida fans, while we cant realisticly expect to be great every year, we should always be competitive, and at the top of the SEC, competing for Sec championships and titles almost every year. And if were rebuilding then show us some of the building blocks and signs that the ship is turning. If not, lets get somebody who can get the job done.
