Florida's road trip to South Carolina this weekend — for its first game as a team with a losing record in more than 20 years — will terminate with a kickoff under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium. The SEC announced on Sunday morning that Florida-South Carolina will start at 7 p.m. on November 16, and be televised by ESPN2.
Florida has only occasionally played night games at South Carolina: The 2001 and 2007 Gators each got the full Columbia experience, and brained the Gamecocks in both games, with 2001's Orange Bowl-bound Gators stomping Carolina 54-17, and 2007's Tim Tebow-led Gators winning 51-31 behind the Heisman Trophy winner-to-be's seven total touchdowns, including a record-tying five rushing scores.
Florida's last trip to Columbia was less successful: The Gators managed just 12 points behind John Brantley and Jacoby Brissett in 2011, and, despite superb defense on the day, fell 17-12 to the Gamecocks.
South Carolina will likely have revenge on its mind, too, after Florida's 44-11 rout of the Gamecocks in Gainesville in 2012. The conditions are right for the 'Cocks to get it.
