How many bowl eligible teams do you need to beat at the University of Florida to retain your job? One. How many teams from BCS schools? Zero.
Will Muschamp is 4-8 in his last 12 games, and soon to be 4-9 and be on a 7 game losing streak(that sparks a lot of confidence heading into 2014). The 3 BCS teams he has defeated this year have a combined record 9-24, all are knocked out of postseason contention. With Kentucky and Tennessee still set to play and with Arkansas set to get massacred by LSU, you can write it in at 10-26. 9-24 or 10-26 those are the facts and they look really really really bad when you see it written and read it again. When you add in the fact Florida just lost to a team in humiliating fashion, at home, in The Swamp, a team not even in the same division, it's bad. Really bad. Add in the fact that team from a lower division lost to another team from said lower division by 24 points(a team which only had 3 wins), and it's bad. Really bad.
A few more things:
1, the beating FSU is going to give us on Saturday will be the most lopsided game in series history. The largest win is 49-0. So all I need to be right in this is 50-0? Sign me up. It will be ugly. Now that Jimbo knows his bff is safe....pour it on. If Jimbo pours it on I can't be mad at the guy. If Spurrier had Bowden down and out I would be disappointed if he didn't keep pouring it on.
2. This will be Jeremy Foley's last Football hire as AD of this University. Jeremy Foley is going to go down swinging for Will Muschamp. He has now made it known his ego is bigger than his brain. Apparently Foley thought that Georgia Tech came back to the SEC and they were the ones running all over Will Muschamp's baby, not a middle of the pack D2 school. If you think Muschamp is only coming back for 2014, you crazy man. Foley is invested in Muschamp for the long haul. If 4-8 is good enough, 6-6 will certainly be good enough next year. And 7-5 will be good enough the year after that. We aren't even early 2000's Florida anymore. What I would give to be Nebraska right now...at least Pelini gets them 9 wins every year.
3: As far as what this will do to the fan base...I think the fan base is at a 80/20 split. 80% want him gone. I still think the people that want him gone will tune in on Saturday's. Not all of them. But more will then won't. The same for current season ticket holders. I guarantee some drop them, but a lot more will keep them. But attendance will still be way down, and will be down for the 6th consecutive season. However, the attendance drop in all 3 Muschamp seasons is really bad. There is only one other school in the SEC will these problems and they don't even know they have a Football program. You can't get The Swamp filled anymore. Not even for FSU. Sad times, folks.
4: And lastly, when was the last time Florida Football was this depressing heading into the off-season? I wasn't around in 1979 but from what I have gathered from research and talking with old timers is that in 79, people were still excited for 80 because they knew it was going to get turned around. I have no confidence Big Dumb Embarrassing Muschamp Football can get turned around. None.
With all that being said......I dislike Muschamp greatly as a Head Coach. I think it was a piss-poor hire, and I don't think he's going to get it fixed. IMO he is a very poor man's Chizik and Zook. And by poor I mean 450% below the poverty line poor. 6-6 is my honest prediction for next season, anything above 7-5 and I will pass out. And I truly believe that will be enough to get him 2015 because as I said, Foley is riding this thing out and is ready to go down swinging with Will Muschamp. Regardless, just like all of you, I still love my University and I will still watch the train-wrecks on Saturday no matter how much farther it throws me into a concussed state. I just wish it was fun. Maybe one day.
