Large 2014 DT recruit becomes Gators' first decommitment for the 2014 class.

The problem with accepting commitments from players more than 18 months before their National Signing Day is that those players sometimes change their minds. Travonte Valentine is one of them: The Palm Bay Bayside High defensive tackle, one of the best prospects at his position for the 2014 class, has decommitted from Florida.

Valentine announced the decommitment first on Facebook. Valentine had previously committed to Florida in July 2012, and had been committed to Louisville prior to being committed to the Gators.

His recruitment appears likely to be a roller-coaster ride, and his substantial talents as a defensive lineman may be eclipsed by his inability to do work in the classroom.

Valentine's decommitment leaves Florida at a scant three commitments for the 2014 recruiting class almost an entire year before 2014's National Signing Day. Good thing that all three — quarterback Will Grier, wide receiver Ryeshene Bronson, and cornerback Duke Dawson — are very good players.
