Jay-nard Bostwick commits to Florida: Gators get big DT from South Florida

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Jay-nard Bostwick is Florida's lone new 2013 National Signing Day commitment so far. That's okay: He's better than you think.

Jay-nard Bostwick announced his commitment to Florida in a National Signing Day announcement on Wednesday morning. The four-star defensive tackle picked the Gators over Miami, but Alabama and Michigan were among the other schools who made runs at the Port St. Lucie defensive tackle.

Bostwick helps shore up the Gators at defensive tackle, a position of need for Florida, and joins Caleb Brantley as the only other high school true defensive tackle in the Gators' 2013 recruiting class. (JUCO recruit Darious "Bear" Cummings is also a defensive tackle, but not a high school recruit.)

Bostwick, a consensus four-star prospect, is sturdily built at 6'4" and 280 pounds, and is likely to add plenty to that frame under Florida strength coach Jeff Dillman. SB Nation recruiting editor Bud Elliott writes that Bostwick "can be a terror with his quickness off the ball," which doesn't sound all that dissimilar from current Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley to me.

With Bostwick's commitment and Tashawn Bower's commitment to LSU, Florida seems to have exhausted all its defensive line options for 2013 save JUCO DT and former Ole Miss commit Jarran Reed, who is expected to choose between Alabama and Florida later in the day.
