Florida men not listed, women tied for 7th after opening day at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Things are underway for the Florida Gators track and field teams at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Florida Gators track and field teams got off to about the start they expected on Wednesday at the opening day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oregon this weekend. The women's team currently sits in a tie for seventh place (with two other teams) and the men's team has yet to get a point.

But the men's team accomplished their goal of qualifying people to their respective finals and/or semifinals, so the day wasn't a total loss. In the men's 400m, both Arman Hall and Hugh Graham Jr. qualified for the finals on Friday night with times of 45.50s and 45.56s respectively. Graham Jr. even set a personal record with his time to go along with his six-place finish overall in the semifinals.

The men's 4x100m relay team also easily advanced to the finals with a season-best time of 38.77s. The foursome of Antwan Wright, Graham Jr., Leonardo Seymore and Dedric Dukes are a serious threat to claim the crown on Saturday.

As for the women, well, the lone highlight for them came from the javelin event. Marija Vucenovic finished runner-up in the javelin with a best distance of 54.76m. That distance also came on her first throw and she nearly held on throughout all the flights to capture the crown but it wasn't meant to be.

Ugonna Ndu won her semifinal heat in the women's 400m with a time 57.05s. She'll next run in the 400m at the Championships in the finals on Friday night.

You can view the rest of the schedule for the Gators as always at GatorZone, including heat sheets and performance lists. The action begins today for the Gators at 4:30 p.m. ET with Jeremy Postin and Kyle Strawn in the men's hammer throw.

As always, you can view results online at FlashResults or watch any of the online streams courtesy of the Pac-12 Network and ESPN3. The coverage between the Pac-12 and ESPN3 will once again be split with the Pac-12 airing the first half of the day and ESPN3 picking up coverage at around 7:00 p.m. ET or so. ESPNU will also be airing things throughout the day so feel free to tune in there as well.
