Calling Dominique Easley the heart and soul of Florida's ferocious defense would be an understatement. But multiple reporters on the Gators beat are hinting that the disruptive defensive tackle may have suffered a serious injury:
First, here's Scout's Jason Higdon telling the guy who makes all those Florida hype videos with the same four movie/TV quotes that Easley "went down with an ACL injury" on Tuesday.
@ClutchLikeMJ Just getting started my friend...Tough break for Easley for sure yesterday in practice going down with ACL injury— Jason Higdon (@Jason_Higdon) September 25, 2013
Then there's Chelsea Gates, who's done on-air work for GatorZone, hinting at the same possibility:
According to little birds.....Dominique Easley May or may not be out for the season...... *NOT yet confirmed #Gators— Chelsea Gates (@ChelseaGatesUF) September 25, 2013
And then there's Mike Gillespie, who does play-by-play for the Gators Sports Network, reporting that Easley suffered an ACL tear and is out for the season.
Sources say starting Gators defensive tackle Dominique Easley out for season with torn ACL. #Gators— Mike Gillespie (@gillespiema) September 25, 2013
Finally, The Gainesville Sun's Zach Abolverdi reports that Easley hurt his knee at practice, and Florida fears an ACL tear:
Rivals' Blake Alderman writes in a premium forum thread ($) that Easley suffered a knee injury that is "not minor."
Scout's Fightin' Gators site's forum also has a thread started by Higdon titled "Major Injury" that I'm going to guess is related to this. (I don't have a Scout subscription, and the actual thread is behind a paywall.)
The rest of the Florida media has gone ultra-quiet on Twitter, making me think everyone and their cousin is trying to chase this down, but it should be noted that Higdon, Gates, Gillespie, and Abolverdi are not among the reporters on the beat I would pick to break this news.
An Easley injury, of any kind, would be devastating.
