Florida football recruiting: Louisville commit Kavaris Harkless to enroll early at UF

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Florida will reportedly pay back Louisville for a few years of transfers with a flip of a recruit in the wake of Charlie Strong's departure.

Florida got a surprise commitment on Sunday in the form of Louisville commitment Kavaris Harkless, an offensive lineman from Trinity Christian School in Jacksonville, who will be enrolling at UF this week, according to 247Sports' Luke Stampini. The news has also been reported by Rivals' Blake AldermanGator Country's Andrew Spivey, and ESPN's Gerry Hamilton.

Harkless is a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rating, and is around 6'5" and 270 pounds, which sounds to me like a good frame for packing on pounds during a redshirt season. His decommitment comes in the wake of Charlie Strong's departure from Louisville for Texas, and could be one of many commitments to Florida for Trinity Christian players.

Harkless will join fellow TC alum Nick Washington at Florida, and the school is likely to be loaded with big-time players in 2015, including LSU commitment Kevin Toliver, CeCe Jefferson, and Jeffery Holland.

Harkless's commitment also brings Florida to six commitments on the offensive line for 2014, as he joins fellow early enrollee Nolan Kelleher and summer enrollees Dontae Angus, Taven Bryan, Travaris Dorsey, and David Sharpe. Florida also got a commitment from JUCO offensive lineman Drew Sarvary in December. That sort of glut at the position might make moving a player from one side of the ball to the other easier, and/or might be insurance against players not qualifying.
