Reviewing Florida early enrollee Taven Bryan: Recruitment, highlights, impact

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Wyoming doesn't produce many potential football greats. But it produced Taven Bryan.

Defensive end Taven Bryan made his commitment to Florida a long time ago, and showed up in Gainesville in January to enroll and get ready for the long process of turning one of the best football players in the state of Wyoming's history — there's not much of that, so I feel safe in this assumption — into a major contributor for the Gators.

Recruitment

Bryan was a two-way football player from Casper, Wyoming, where he attended Natrona County High School, when Florida found and offered him. Bryan had his recruitment take off when Florida offered him, and though he ended up committing during an official visit on June 11, 2013, and taking a picture of himself riding the Bull Gator outside The Swamp, Bryan has since received numerous BCS offers from schools like Tennessee, California, Nebraska, and Washington.

Highlights

Future Impact

Many questions surround Bryan's ability to compete in the SEC. Being from Wyoming, the competition Bryan faced relative to an athlete from Florida, California, or Texas pales in comparison, but his raw talent on film, where he appears fast, physical, and relentless, is hard to deny. At 6'5" and 250 pounds, Bryan will develop nicely as a strong side defensive end, likely providing depth behind fellow 2014 commit Gerald Willis and the rest of Florida's players at the position. His development should kick into overdrive now that he's in a college weight program.

Although I believe he'll redshirt, I think Bryan is a great take for Florida as he provides depth and size up front, and should contribute nicely in a four- or five-year career at Florida.
