Reviewing Florida early enrollee Kavaris Harkless: Recruitment, highlights, impact

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

After years of donating players to Louisville, Florida got one back in Kavaris Harkless.

Florida's been a pipeline for Louisville for years, with Charlie Strong siphoning former Urban Meyer recruits away from Will Muschamp's programs. Muschamp paid Louisville back in January 2014, snagging early enrollee Kavaris Harkless from the Cardinals just after Strong's departure from Texas.

Recruitment

Harkless is a developmental offensive lineman from Jacksonville, where he attended Trinity Catholic High School. Harkless, who we project as a an offensive tackle at Florida, committed to the Gators when he received his offer in January, and enrolled shortly afterward.

Harkless wasn't the most heavily recruited tackle, but did have double-digit BCS offers. Among them were Florida, Boston College, Louisville, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri.

Highlights

Future Impact

The expectations aren't extremely high for Harkless, as he was a consensus three-star player. He stands 6'5" and weighs 270 pounds, and could be a good rotational tackle in a few years' time, but needs time, weight, and seasoning.

The hope for Harkless will be to immediately get him in the weight room and add 20-30 pounds over the next two years. Harkless will redshirt his freshman year and will likely ultimately make it into the rotation around his redshirt sophomore or junior year. In time, expect Harkless to develop into a good, not great player, and hopefully build some continuity with the other linemen in the class.
