Florida football recruiting: Andrew Mike flips to Gators on National Signing Day eve

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Florida called up Vanderbilt commit Andrew Mike late on Tuesday. By the end of the night, he'd dropped the 'Dores for the Gators.

Florida secured a late-night flip from Arizona offensive lineman Andrew Mike on Tuesday, mere hours before National Signing Day, as first reported by 247Sports' Luke Stampini.

Stampini was also first to report, on Tuesday afternoon, that Florida had reached out to Mike, who committed to Vanderbilt on Monday. The move was likely made in the wake of bad news from both Stampini and Rivals' Blake Alderman, who reported Monday night that Maryland offensive tackle Damian Prince was likely to pick his home state Terrapins on National Signing Day; Florida was looking for a sixth offensive lineman in this class to build depth at a position that was decimated by injury in 2013, and determined not to whiff entirely if it could not reel in Prince.

Mike is a three-star player according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and stands a full 6'6", which helps him project as a tackle down the road. But he is listed at no more than 280 pounds by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports, and that makes him a likely candidate to spend a fall bulking up with the help of strength coach Jeff Dillman before contributing on the field.

Mike is Florida's 22nd commitment in the Class of 2014, but he likely will not be the last, and may not even be the last on the offensive line, depending on Derrick Kelly's Signing Day decision.
