C.J. Worton signs with Florida on National Signing Day 2014: Recruitment, highlights, impact

MOM BOUGHT PIZZA ROLLS! - Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

C.J. Worton's got an impressive brother. If he can make his own name at Florida, the Gators will have gotten a good one.

C.J. Worton used a commitment ceremony at South Dade High School to announce he was spending the next four years of his life at Florida, then made his commitment official by signing his National Letter of Intent and faxing it to the Gators' football offices. And, lo, Worton is one of just two players in this class — along with Treon Harris — who can say the day he became a Florida Gator was the day he officially became a Florida Gator.

Worton's recruitment was a fun one for Gators, and his highlights and projection might be more fun.

Recruitment

Worton is an wide receiver from Homestead, Florida, who recently announced he decommitment from Florida State. The four-star prospect and former Seminole decommitted from the 'Noles after Ermon Lane left the Florida class — and after a tweet sent just before taking an official visit to Florida led FSU to withdraw its scholarship offer.

Worton was attracted to Florida because of the shallow depth at the wide receiving position and because of the attractiveness of Kurt Roper's new system, and, despite a late run by West Virginia, was Florida's to lose as of about mid-January.

Highlights

Future Impact

Put simply, Worton is a great get for Florida because of the Gators' needs at wide receiver. Players who can step in and catch the ball are wanted, and Worton, while not possessed of fantastic size or speed, definitely makes plays.

Worton flew under the radar for the most part during his recruitment, but the spotlight shined on the Homestead kid late — after his brother, J.J., starred for UCF in the fall, Worton put on a show in South Dade's state title game victory over Apopka.

Worton's football IQ and athleticism immediately stand out on tape. I think, like Ryan Sousa, Worton can come in and contribute immediately in Kurt Roper's new offensive system.
