Florida earns No. 1 overall seed in 2014 NCAA Tournament

Bro, adidas? - Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Florida's at the tippy-top of the bracket once again.

Florida earned the No. 1 overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced via CBS's live NCAA Tournament selection show, on Sunday night.

The Gators are the No. 1 overall seed for the second time, having earned the No. 1 overall seed in 2007 en route to a second consecutive national championship. The Gators won the SEC's regular season title and the SEC Tournament in both 2007 and 2014, and topped that 2007 double, the only other one in school history, by winning all 21 games they played against SEC teams in 2014, becoming the first SEC team to go 18-0 in conference play and the first SEC team to go 21-0 against SEC teams.

These Gators enter the NCAA Tournament on a 26-game winning streak, the longest in school history, and just off a stirring third triumph over Kentucky — also a Florida first — in the SEC Tournament final. They are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament's South Region, where they will meet a No. 16 seed — either Albany or Mount St. Mary's — in a round of 64 game in Orlando on Thursday, March 20.

We'll have plenty more analysis as the night and week wear on, but, for now: This is a great accomplishment by Florida, and gives the Gators the inside track to their third national championship. Now the Gators just have to work like they have all year to make good on that great positioning.
