Will Muschamp steals Day One of 2014 NFL Draft with a single tweet

Sam Greenwood

Love him or hate him, it's hard to argue that Will Muschamp isn't witty.

Florida coach Will Muschamp would seem an unlikely candidate to chime in during the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, with no Gators — other than, perhaps, Dominique Easley — projected to be selected on Thursday night.

But that wit that he selectively displays, and his self-deprecating streak, helped him do just that with this tweet:

Muschamp tweeted this just after the top 10 of the draft was finalized. All six of the offensive players drafted — Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson, UCF quarterback Blake Bortles, Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews, Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans, and North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron — hail from spread offenses. And Florida, after three years struggling to get anything consistent out of pro-style attacks, is switching to a spread offense in 2014 under new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.

There's obviously risk to a tweet like this, if you think the inevitable snark from some corners counts as risk. But, personally, I'm fine with Muschamp making jokes at his own expense — especially if the jokes also have a layer of continuity, and self-deprecation.

Remember when Muschamp, going through the ESPN car wash last May, talked about not understanding why the symbol that is now commonly known as a hashtag was called that, then tweeted this?

That was a year to the day ago.

Florida's coach has callback Twitter jokes. He's not nearly as dumb as you think.
