Whether you're heading to the lake, going out for a round of golf or just hanging around the house (or working)... have a fun and safe Memorial Day. (And check out Matt Ufford's video of veterans' favorite sports memories.)
I kind of can't explain this screenshot from this week's Shutdown Fullback without just directing you to watch Shutdown Fullback, so go watch Shutdown Fullback or something.
I LOL'd very hard at what Georgia decided to title its commemorative VHS tape (!!!) of the 1997 Florida-Georgia game. It's available on Amazon, if you, for some reason, want to buy it and try out your new sledgehammer or something.
If you have any questions at all about how Florida makes its money, and why it's expensive to buy Gators season tickets not because of the ticket cost but because of the seat license fees, look no further than this graph from Year2's brilliant look at how athletic programs make their money at Team Speed Kills. It's as must-read as anything about college football will be this month.
Demarcus Walker is a big-time defensive line recruit from Jacksonville Sandalwood, and a Florida target who named the Gators in his top eight. Ahmad Fulwood is a Florida commit. This is one of my favorite tweets. (HT to @LukeStampini via @htowngator.)
The picture's from Saturday, but I drove by the 34th Street Wall yesterday, and it was still there. (If you're in Gainesville and want to see it, it's at the extreme south end of the Wall.) I think it captures current sentiment about the Gators pretty well via Internet meme. (Via @TenneyUF) Additionally, I'm going to be in a car and at an awards ceremony (it's for my sister; I sure as hell haven't done anything award-worthy of late) for most of the rest of the day, so FlaGators and Lance are your acting captains of the size. Do not allow them to capsize it.
Florida's lacrosse team, fresh off their ALC Tournament Championship on Saturday, earned the No. 1 overall seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Gators will host Albany. Somewhat related: This picture is awesome, and features Samantha Ferrell, Kitty Cullen, Hayley Katzenberger, and Krista Grabher, who still has the best Twitter handle of any Gator, despite changing it. If you're graduating today, Gators, I only wish you all the success in the world and the good fortune to look as happy in your cap and gown as Erving Walker does here with Billy D. (@UFCoachBillyD)
Georgia put this up in Athens. Let the jokes begin.
