Alligator Army Off-Topic: Haiti

The University of Florida's immediate concerns are on campus as there is a large number of students and staff of Haitian ancestry. UF is organizing a relief mission to go to Haiti as well as on-campus counseling. Two UF faculty members have been contacted in Haiti, but two journalism grad students have not been heard from. [Update] The UF journalism students have been found

Lynn University in Boca Raton is missing five students and two teachers of a delegation working with Food For The Poor prior to the earthquake. Seven other students have been accounted for after reaching the American Embassy in Port-au-Prince. [Update] Lynn University now says four other students have made contact, with one student and two faculty members still missing.

[Update] Orlando Sentinel's Jeremy Fowler contacted UF coach Chuck Heater, who said Wondy Pierre Louis' parents are safe in Haiti. Pierre Louis grew up in Haiti.

- More than $2 million has been raised for the Red Cross' efforts via text message. To donate, text HAITI to 90999 and the $10 donation will be added to your next cell phone bill.

- Doctors Without Borders had to evacuate their facility due to the Haiti earthquake. You can donate to the Nobel Peace Prize winning group here.

- David Letterman took time Wednesday night to promote the United Nations World Food Programme. Letterman will also have the WFP's spokeswoman on next Tuesday's show, her second appearance on The Late Show. You can donate to WFP here.

- With 80% of Haiti considered to be Roman Catholics, Catholic Relief Services will be a big part of the relief efforts. You can donate to Catholic Relief Services here. (This is the international version of Catholic Charities USA, which we gave to during Hurricane Katrina. This was going to be our pick again, until the cute French girl from Arcade Fire had a different suggestion. See below.)

- One of our favorite bands, Arcade Fire, is especially close to this tragedy. Singer Regine Chassagne is of Haitian descent and performs the song "Haiti" seen below. Regene and husband/band co-founder Win Butler encourage you to donate to Partners In Health. The Boston organization's first clinic was in Haiti in 1983. You can donate to PIH here.

Classic Moments In Championship Mode: Games Of The Decade

Your basketball game of the decade...

April 2, 2007; Gators 84 - Ohio State 75, National Championship Game: This is the reason why the Oh Fours returned to Gainesville; a chance at history. Florida became the only school to win consecutive National Championships with the same starting five. Ohio State's center Greg Oden got his usual double-double, but UF was cool and efficient. Every big Ohio State play was answered by a Green or Humphrey three-pointer (they were a combined 7-10 for three) or a huge dunk by Al Horford (who led UF with 18 points). The Gators shot 49% from the field.

Your football game of the decade...

January 8, 2009; Gators 24 - Oklahoma 14, BCS Championship Game: Facing the most prolific offense in history, the Gators allowed only 14 points, had 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and two huge goal line stands. While Tim Tebow struggled, Florida stayed alive thanks to Percy Harvin's 171 yards of total offense and touchdown. His 46 yard run followed UF's first goal line stand, and his 52 yarder followed Oklahoma's score to tie it at 14-14. Major Wright's hit on Manny Johnson to start the game preceded his interception to end UF's second goal line stand and end the first half. Ahmad Black's interception set up UF's final score, as a headhunting defense confused Heisman winner Sam Bradford

Alligator Army Gator Of The Decade

These are the men who made us laugh, cheer and in all cases, wonder how long they would stay in Gainesville. But most importantly, they are all champions. The nominees for Gator Of The Decade;

Billy Donovan (1996-Present): Two National Championships (2006, 2007), three National Finalists (2000, 2006, 2007), eight NCAA appearances in this decade (2000-07). Three SEC Tournament Championships (2005-2007) and three SEC Regular Season Championships (2000-01, 2007). Turned down the NBA and Kentucky. Four of his former assistants are Division 1 coaches, including two in the SEC.

Green, Humphrey, Brewer, Horford, Noah (2004-07): The only starting five to win consecutive National Championships. Two National Championships (2006-2007), three SEC Tournament Championships (2005-2007), one SEC Regular Season Championship (2007). 6-1 against Kentucky. In the 2006 SEC season, they lost two home games, the only home games they lost as a starting five. Brewer, Horford, Noah all turned down top-10 draft pick money for another championship, and got the top-10 money anyway.

Urban Meyer (2005-Present): Two National Championships (2006, 2008), two SEC Championships (2006, 2008), three SEC East Championships (2006, 2008-09). Has lost three games to the annual rivals; Florida State (5-0), Georgia (4-1), LSU (3-2) and Tennessee (5-0). 3-1 in bowl games. Recruited Tim Tebow. Three of former assistants are Division 1 coaches, including one in SEC.

Tim Tebow (2006-09): One National Championship as a contributing backup (2006), one National Championship as a starter (2008). 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, AP Player of The Year, Davey O'Brien Award (best quarterback), 2007-08 Maxwell Award (best player), AP First Team All-American. The Greatest Football Player in Florida History and arguably one of the top-20 college players of all-time.

Coming Attractions; Alligator Army All-Decade Awards

Monday, we will kick off our Alligator Army College Bowl Pick'em. Starting next week, we will also have our All-Decade Awards. You'll be able to pick an All-Decade Team in football (not basketball, because if you pick something other than Noah, Horford, Brewer, Humphrey, Green, you're an asshole). But you can select Best Basketball Player, Best Non-Major Sport Athlete, Football Game of The Decade, Basketball Game of The Decade and Gator of The Decade. If we had money, we'd send the winners a cool t-shirt, but we have no money.

We'll also get more into the Sugar Bowl and what a headless Cincinnati means for the Gators. We'll look at the Gators rebuilding for 2010, hopefully without someone accusing us of being a Miami fan because God forbid someone predicts UF might finish 8-5 or 9-4. Maybe we'll have an exit interview with Evil Tebow too, or at least ask him what he thinks about Good Tebow taking a brain cancer patient to the ESPNU College Football Awards Show.

Stay Classy, UF Security

I just hope they erase that D I got fall of my senior year;

The University of Florida announced this morning that it is trying to notify more than 97,200 people "that an intruder gained access to a computer system containing files with their personal information," a news release said.

If you went to UF in the last 10 years, you could be affected. But don't worry, UF officials and the UPD are on top of it. Didn't know the UPD did more than laugh at your bike getting stolen or give you tickets for going down the Museum Road hill at 26mph? Now you do.

Alligator Army Awards: The Albie for Best Moment In Championship Mode

Championship Mode: mental state when a person is so focused on a goal, he or she performs at a skill level not thought possible.

I am honored to present the nominees for Best Moment In Championship Mode.

RB Jeff Demps vs. LSU: 10 rushes for 129 yards and a touchdown (seen here). This game was Demps' showcase.

WR Percy Harvin vs. Georgia: Four rushes for 37 yards and a touchdown. Three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Harvin is still the Gators' most dangerous player.

LB Brandon Spikes vs. Georgia: Seven total tackles, half sack, and this huge tackle for a loss. Spikes has made his presence felt in every game since.

QB Tim Tebow vs. Florida State: 16 rushes for 92 yards, a touchdown, and this epic smackdown. Tebow was also 12-21 with three touchdowns and 185 yards in the air. Nothing was stopping Tebow in this game.

QB Tim Tebow vs. Alabama; SEC Championship Game: Two epic fourth quarter drives that rallied the Gators into the BCS Championship game. 14-22 passing with 216 yards and three touchdowns, each on third and goal. If the Gators win the national title, you will tell your children where you were when Tebow won the 2008 SEC Championship.

Alligator Army Awards: The Albie for Best Quote

These were the two that stood above the rest.

"It’s boring. I thought it would be fun, like you see on TV. But it ain’t like that."

- Chris Rainey on his “sex classes.”

"I'm sorry. Extremely sorry. You know, we were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida's never done here. But I promise you one thing; a lot of good will come out of this..."

- Tim Tebow following the Ole Miss game.
