I always kinda liked Johnson's skills, but there's not a ton of room to fit in here. He's kind of a poor man's Pronk (which is also what Pronk is these days), and I'm hoping he doesn't spend much time spelling Laporta at first.
UPDATE: It's a minor league deal. -afh
oh my!
This Indians article is about 3 11 former Brewers system players:
Branyan, Brantley, and the LaPortas
"Brantley, a prized acquisition in the 2008 CC Sabathia trade with the Brewers" - um....he wasn't the "prized" one...he was a PTBNL whereas LaPorta WAS the prize.
He looked good enough to be in the big leagues to me... If they need a corner outfielder, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable at all starting him in the big leagues—he should be one of their first call-ups unless they decide to work his service clock.
Carlos Santana and Matt Laporta go 26 and 27 respectively, The Weglarz pops in at 58, and some respect for our boy Adam Miller in at 82.
There's also an interesting link here, that breaks down their list looking at where these players signed from, if drafted where in the draft, nationality, etc.
