I know it was late, but in case you didn't know the Gators took one on the chin last night courtesy of the Kansas Jayhawks in an 82-80 overtime loss. It took a little luck to get to OT in the first place, and when Horford fouled out in the extra frame it was evident Kansas was going to win the game in which they led for the majority of the time.
The Jayhawks used a relentless inside attack from forwards Julian Wright and Darrell Arthur, getting the Florida big men in foul trouble and using that to their advantage. In the end the two combined for 40 points and 19 rebounds. This was an excellent performance inside, and really is what kept the Gators on the ropes all night.
One thing to note though, is the lack of defensive presence inside for the Gators. This was a below average performance in terms of team defense, and when you play a good team with forwards who can score, you're going to run into problems. The Jayhawks shot 53% on the night and hit several big shots to not allow the Gators to maintain any kind of momentum. They had an excellent gameplan and came out very focused.
Move on, it's still early in the season. Maybe this game will be beneficial in the end as it will bring them down from the high of winning the NC last season and help them focus more on the task at hand this year.
