Happy New Year From Swamp Ball

It's been one great year for Gator athletics.  We watched the Gators win the 2006 SEC basketball tournament, and then watched them win the first basketball national championship in school history.  We watched the football team overcome a very tough schedule on their way to a 12-1 record and their first SEC title since 2000.

On to 2007 we go, as the big game on the 8th will be one of the first events Gator fans will witness in the new year.  With that in mind we will definitely be starting '07 with a bang.

I'm headed out for now, but check out these quick hits:

...The Gator basketball team ended 2006 with a scare from the UAB Blazers down in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.  They won the game 75-70, capping off a huge second half that catapulted them to the win after trailing by 7 at halftime.  Following the huge win over Ohio State and a game away from home on a neutral floor, the Gators just came out flat.  Joakim Noah had a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

...Pay attention to Scout.com and GatorCountry.com for all of the information regarding the upcoming Army All-American Game, featuring several Gator commits - including QB John Brantley, TE Aaron Williams and DL Torrey Davis.  There are also several others who are yet to decide on which school to attend, including Deonte Thompson, Major Wright and Ben Thompson.

...In non-Gators, but SEC news, 'Bama really, really wants Nick Saban to be their new head coach.  ESPN is reporting that the offer could be over $40 million dollars.

Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
